All HD/B bikes leave the factory with dino except Screaming Eagle/CVO bikes - they get Syn3. Z | ||

I searched and found several old threads on the issue. There were a lot of conflicting posts about what's actually in these engines from the factory. Normally I'd agree with Barker, but this is a WHOLE different engine from our air-cooled lumps. Some pretty note-worthy high performance engines like Corvettes come from the factory with synthetic fill. I only have ~160 miles to go to the first change. I'm gonna take the safe route, follow the owner's manual, and use Syn3. | ||

When service rep gave me tour of bike he told me it had Syn3 in it not Dino. Service rep...meaning at the dealership? Uh, there is an excellent chance he was pulling that tidbit of info out of his ass. It's real easy guys. Break the bike in with the oil from the factory (whatever it may be.) and change to a full synthetic (which Syn 3 is not) at 500-600 miles. | ||

IIRC, Syn3 is a Class III oil, which is not a true synthetic. It's based on petroleum and hyper-refined. I am not any expert and there are plenty of people that can elaborate. Amsoil is Class IV, true synthetic. | ||
