Okay, just day dreaming here, has anyone looked into grafting an XB swing arm onto a tubeframe model? Or how about the other way around? How about the front forks in either direction? I'm not concerned with the electics, or with the oil capacity or flows, just the idea at this point. And along those lines (just thought of this one) how about putting an XB swing arm onto a Blast? Forks? |

Mike J, How about just adapting the belt idler pully system to an S-1. I would love to have the belt tension controlled by an idler. Does anyone know, is it practical (I know, anything is possible) to adapt the XB idler to an S-1? Mickey |

I don't know if we can trivialize the fitting of an idler to another bike. The way Buell has theirs set up there is virtually no change in belt tension through the entire useful range of the suspension. They kept talking about some number of pages of math (6? 11?) to get the idler right. Then they redesigned it for the production bikes but I don't know if any critical dimensions were altered. Maybe this is a job for Blake... -Saro |

One benefit if we could graft the new swingarm on the old tubers would be that I could fab up the underseat exhaust I have always wanted. Right now I still have to find a place for oil and the battery. |

Dave, Yea, eliminate the oil tank and replace the battery with a solar panel (I only ride in good weather).....just think of the room for an under seat exhaust. Mickey |

Why is putting a hot metal pipe under your butt a good thing? I think putting the muffler under the bike looks better and is more functional. Why try to make a Buell look like a Duck? The Buell is much prettier. |

I'm currently splicing an XB top end on my 97 S3 with a 2001 X1 crank,44mm cv carb and other assorted "stuff".Does that count? |

How would you make the new swingarm work with the underneath pull shock? You would need an extension that goes down towards the shock. Besides, I like Ducs! I just want a Buecati. |

Good luck building that Du-uell The hot pipe under the seat will certaintly take your mind off any other seat ergos. I like the belt idler idea--room for endless tinkering there... Oil in swingarm? Maybe something like the single-sided swingarm by Metamechs could be adapted with a centralized resevoir. A tube frame with a high titanium exhaust--fat SSS Spaceshuttle tiles for a seat... |

Here are a few exchanges; First XB top rockers. Before the XB came out I took 2 Blast rocker tops with the breather valves and exchange them for the 2 top rocker pc on my 2K M2. This is such a better way of breathing and seperating the oil. Remember to plug the carb side breather holes and dump the 2 top breather hoses in a Jag catch can. Just finished installing the XB motor sprocket and clutch in the old M2. The XB as you know has the new Compensating springs in the Clutch basket.also elininates the nasty spring plate,)the rivets always coming loose) Also the XB clutch uses Needle Bearing VS ball Bearing between the Basket and Hub. Also the gearing is slightly different. This exchange cost $$$! and you have to modify the Trans door,Bearing clip and primary cover. The want was less vibration. The result was less spectacular. A lot of money for little results..the only differnce in ride is deceleration..smoother like an XB with less engine pulses...Viberation is still their on the tube below 3Krpm But I just had to try it! My next question is, Will the XB ECM work on an X1? Everything is the same! Sensors, Timing cup,Injectors,Pickups, Sensory Parameters. Just think..They finally got the XB F.I. Right wouldn't be nice if the same map & timing worked on the X1? |

Jadow, Any pics that you could post about your changes? I would love to see a close up of the rocker boxes and clutch. Although preferably not on the bike so I can see exactly how they would go together. Any chance you took pictures during the install? Dave |

Sorry snowdave. I thought about taking pictures after the clutch project started. Plus I was pressed for time,(borrowed time from the boss) Just thought it was neat others take the time and wonder if parts can fit! Oh and Twodogs..I'm a Buell tech that has tried to perfect my Buell..I'm getting closer..but would love to sit down with Eric and ask," Why did you do it that way?" And I guess it will always Vibrate! |

Jadow, Well, I was at my almost local dealer (Dealer - 40 mi, Buell Factory - 35 mi) and the rocker box seems to be a quick bolt on and relatively cheap at less than $100. However, we looked up the clutch setup in an XB9R manual and it looked identical to the one on my M2. What am I missing? Was the manual wrong? |

Twodawgs, How's that motor of yours coming together? Any dyno reports yet? Tell me, have they adapted an XB style piston/cylinder oiling jet to your older bottom end? Hope it's ready for Grattan: You are reg'd for Grattan's Ducati Club weekend, aren't you? later budd, Lornce |

Oh Yes snowdave! Look very close. With the Parts catalog side by side..There is a miss print. The bearing for the clutch basket includes ball bearings..Wrong! If you could look at both service manuals the M2 has Ball bearings the XB has the new set-up of Needle bearing! Also the XB clutch has compensating springs built into the back of the clutch. Set the 2 side by side and the XB assembly is alot taller, even though they use the same amount of plates. Go back to the part books and you will see the XB eliminates the rivieted spring plate with a Narrow friction plate and 2 metal spring parts. What does not make sense is in both manuals the factory states the ratio in the primary is 1.60. but the M2 has 35/56 and the XB 34/57...they would have had to add 2 teath to the clutch to be the same. Boss figures the XB has the smaller motor sprocket because it lacks BALLS (Torque) |

The cooler and cover was about $130. The brackets were made for me by a friend on his milling machine out of suff he had laying around. You can spend as much as you want on hoses. I have gone high end with stainless braided hoses and A/N fittings. I also have a thermostat that I have to make a mount for that cost me about $35. Oh I almost forgot, the fittings on the cooler are a harley only size. I assumed (a$$ u me) that they were #6A/N and had allready bought fittings. I will have to buy more fittings from Earls Performance Products who has the correct size. |
