And now for something completely different: Got an odd noise coming from the motor on my baby. Sounds like a valve clattering, or like a sticky lifter (for obvious reasons, that's not it....). Took it to the dealer, they tore it down, checked everything they could think of all the way down to the valve lash. All good. At my request they checked the stator nut, all as it should be. Noise still there. They said ride it, it's still under warranty. Two days ago, I was on the way home and was ruminating on the noise, and I pinged a memory of an 84 Honda Interceptor 1000 v-4 that I had many moons ago. The reason I got shed of it was the cam chain tensioner wore out, and I didn't have the time and equipment to deal with it. But the important thing is that the sound I am hearing I think is very similar, and a bit louder, than what I remember hearing on the Honda from a loose cam chain. Anybody had this, on either an 1125 or any other bike, and if so, tell me what it sounded like to you... BTW, I did have the cam chain tensioner recall done on this just after I bought it. Thanks in advance! R |

Cabon - My mechanic mentioned there have been a few wrist pins that have loosened in the pistons. So far he has only seen '08s with this issue. In fact he hasn't even had '09s in for warranty work yet. |

It comes and goes at different rpms. A loose pin would just get louder with revs, right? If anything, it's loudest down low, right after you fully engage the clutch starting in first. R |

I think I've had the same noise occasionally (mostly when cold). Sounds like a valve clattering. It always goes away but makes you nervous for a while. I have over 7k miles now and it has not gotten worse or better. Warming the bike up completely before riding is the only thing that helps. Personally, its got 2 years of warranty and I'll ride it hard until whatever it is gives way or becomes easily identified then fix. (can't fix what ain't broken - especially if you can't find what's causing it) |

I get a lot of noise till the bike warms up to 170 degrees then it calms down. |

I've noticed mine is better after warm up too. Like Crogers I'll ride the piss out of mine until it breaks. I bough the five year warranty and right now its worth maybe $3000??? So WTF? Hey, it's worth less than a Ninja 250! wOOOOOt!!!! Carbon - Be sure to post up what the problem is. (Message edited by hellgate on October 18, 2009) |

Going in the shop today... And I am probably going to ride out on either a black CR or a black on black on black on black Lightning SS, until mine is out of the shop. I kinda think it would be cool to have 2 CR's, especially since the 1125 would wind up being cheaper!!! But I would be happy with either one. The wife has seen the light, and O.K.'d the purchase, she just has to pick out which one she wants... WoooHooo! R (Message edited by carbonbigfoot on October 19, 2009) |

Ok. Found the thread. Redundant post, sorry for that. The rattling sound was the nut that holds the clutch on. loosened up a bit, letting that assembly, as well as a the gears behind it that drive the balance shafts to rattle around. No damage, tighten up, and go like he11! R |
