I believe the stock exhaust is 26 pounds. Eliminating the stocker with a cooler aftermarket will definitely kill weight. Now, over the life of a bike, would this change effect the longevity of the motor? I figure 26 pounds of metal heats up and retains heat. Does this heat at the end of the combustion chamber aid with removing heat from the actual engine block. In essence, does it create vacuum and pull heat from the motor? |

Hm. I will start by admitting that I know nothing, but let's look at this logically. What is heating the exhaust system? Exhaust gas, which is exiting the bike with some rapidity. With no hardware there at all, the gas would ideally not be heating the engine much at all. With a big chunk of metal there, the heat is lingering. My carbon fiber exhaust stays pretty cool to the touch. I'm thinking most of the heat is going straight out the back. |

First question=Without tuning, yes. Second question(s)=You've almost lost me but... Exhaust heat is the wasted/energy from any less than 100% efficient combustion event. All current Liquid Gasoline IC engines are far less than efficient. Heat is the byproduct. 26#'s versus 8#'s of muff is of no wonder...in fact; It could be argued that the stock muffler design is perhaps best at insulating said engine and/or entire rider equipped 11 when fully understood. No alternative exhaust currently available is cooler from a heat respect unless tuned...which eliminates the exhaust question. Hope that helps...mm |
