Do people think there is ANY chance of Buell being resurrected, and they would still pursue the XB and 1125 platforms? If HD were to become as profitable as they were years ago, would they rekindle the Buell brand? |

That is patently inaccurate. The Buell 1125 Helicon engine shares ALMOST no parts or technology with prior Rotax products. You are looking ill learned in the matter. There was a great deal of the design that was done, quite literally, years ago. The project was taken to several manufacturers (for the record, Harley-Davidson was one of them) to submit proposals to design and build the motor to BUELL PROVIDED specifications. These specifications were quite detailed and Buell engineering and purchasing staff were resident in Austria during the design and construction of the motor. There may, as a matter of convenience and economy, be a few common parts (someone suggested the oil filter, I do not know) in common from the Rotax parts bin, but the motor is a BUELL motor. Rotax is under contract to transfer none of the technology to any other products for a period of time. Court P.S. - Buell has other designs, similar to the Helicon, that have produced well in excess of 200HP. |

moon hd has shown they are reckless and short sighted.hopefully that bad judgement will happen again and they will sell totally clean and clear the buell brand and line and whatever else they can. i also dont think the buell oriented patents would be held on to.who'd want to make buells with none of the special patents and design? hd would likely do it and want a portion of the long term profits,or in their what i think is short term serious money shortage, they will want to off the patents as well.none of the buell stuff relates directly to hd or what they build so why not make money from it? they can sit and close it all and thats that..or be underhanded and wait and see if anyone comes up with a decent offer to buy buell. one would think they would do something to try and bring cash to pay down their debt,as opposed to doing nothing which also will cost money. to me it's fairly obvious.unless they sit and wait to open buell up again....but i doubt that. |
