I recently bought an old Lightning Series S1 race bike that is remarkably complete and unmolested. It has a damaged race header, but is missing the muffler. Does anybody have one to help put the old girl back together?

I'm still looking for an early race muffler. It doesn't have to be perfect. I'm also looking for a carbon fiber ham can air cleaner. Thanks! |

Bump...I'm still looking for a race muffler and a race air cleaner. Anybody got one in the corner of the garage? I've got a few tube frame and XB parts I might consider trading? Thanks |

I have a complete race header and muffler for a 1996-1998. It is in very good condition with no dents and the muffler does not rattle. I would need to get $400 for it. please call during the daytime Mon-Fri at 303-702-1600 if you are interested. |

Hey 80rs427. If you don't win the auction on eBay and Bluzm2 jacks the parts from Lucille-I have a race muffler. It has the separation around the inlet seam, but in good shape otherwise. Oh, and that is a sweet bike! Thanks! Mike |

No problem...I'm sure either Bluzm2 will step back or Lucille will decline other offers until you have had first crack at it. |

John, Be careful with the muffler you have, the separation you see is the prelude to a complete separation of the can from the inlet pipe. That's why they came out with the restraining cable setup. The muffler is still very usable but make sure you have a restraint kit installed. In fact, the kit isn't a bad idea even for a "perfect" race can. I am installing one on my late model style M2 can (same can as the early style header..) BTW, I pinged John offline, all straightened out. Brad |

BTW John, you going to street the S1 or use it as a track bike? Just wondering.. |

Brad, thanks very much. I'll contact Lucille soon. I don't have any plans to return it to the street. It doesn't have a VIN (race use only stamping on the frame) or title. I did some research and it had limited success in the '97-98 lightning series. I've heard back from Henry Duga and I've written letters to the owner, Mitch Hansen, and the rider, Shawn Conrad, hoping to learn more about it. I think it would be a shame to take a bike so near to original race condition and modify it for street use. My plans for it are to assemble another set of prettier plastics painted with the same paint scheme, and pack the originals away. I have already picked up a couple bits. It is in need of the race muffler and carbon fiber ham can air cleaner, as they are missing. The race header is flat spotted in a couple places, so I'd like to replace it too. My son does a couple track days a year so it might see limited action again. I've also thought about asking permission from the local airport for some run time during off hours. John |

That muffler did bring good money, but how often do you see new ones come along? I spoke with Dan at NRHS and I ended up buying the header and muffler from him that he offered earlier. Thanks Brad for being a good sport, and Mike for the generous offer.
