Well,I installed everything back on with a limiting screw and I think we're on the right track--not quite so much boost though it still goes above 10-12.Took it for a ride and can feel boost much better, blew hose off of plenum 2 times, first from clamp nearest plenum.I had an old shock reservoir clamp and used that,so then the next clamp down the line lets go.Now mind you I am tightening these things, boost just makes the connection let loose.Might have to weld a tab on pipe.Still some stutter under transition, mid throttle--what does that on these CV's?Sure like to try one of those switches like came on Jim Witt's set-up.Have to ask Aerocharger about adding it. |

Jim,Good luck on the CV carb. The boost is fooling around with the slide movement.Slamming it up into the carb. I had to make a stainless steel restrictor(installed in front of the carb) that limited the signal to the diaphragm. Someone told me to stretch the spring, and besides being kind of crude , caused its own problems.I gave up and installed a flat slide Mikuni. But maybe there was something to find in using the CV. |

Jim, In my "old" price sheet from Aerocharger (dated 02-21-97) they sold a pre-jetted Keihin CV carb with turbo-jetting/conversion kit installed for $349.00. Not sure what this all means, just wanted to let you know. Mine shipped with what Aerocharger called a turbo Mikuni. In those days, Aerodyne President Jim Czekala told me the CV wouldn't work with their system, however they were working on a new plenum design that would allow the CV to work. The only problem I've had with my setup is the fuel pressure regulator. I'm on my 4th one but I've had the Aerocharger on the bike nearly 5 years now. Anywho ... I found an old Dyno Sheet tonight when I was looking for this puppy. -JW:> |

Sorry Henrik. I was born in August..... Roc, That's for the EGT probe. The O2 sensor is after the collector. I made sure I got one that looked very sturdy. FMJ, The switch just allows boost pressure to bleed out before it reaches the controller, so it thinks there is less boost in the plenum. It's like having a small leak on that line when the switch is in that position. Mine is also misfiring between 3-4000rpm. I see it going lean through there, so I figured it was just jetting, but that idea of the slide opening too fast could have something to do with it. I have also stretched my spring 3/4" and that made some improvement, but it's not 100% yet. I picked up my new programmable ignition today, so I can run the dual plugs now. More variables.... Vr1203, Sure is a pretty plenum! I haven't fitted it yet. You realise that there's three Jim's here with turbo's now...... Pete |

Jim,tell me what you did to Mikuni to utilize it as I had one on there and could not get it to work at upper end, though that may have been my overboost problem at that.Might have to re-install and try it.Good thing its an easy swap.Hardest thing is changing throttle cables. |

Firemanjim asked: ... tell me what you did to Mikuni to utilize it ... Jim(s), Roc, Peter, It was pretty simple. Took the turbo-Mikuni out'a the box 5 years ago and installed it ... that's all I know ... sorry. Do you have the tech sheet on how to adjust the boost? I know it exist because I had one? Can't seem to find the damn thing, but still looking. That's something I wouldn't screw with. Sure could cause some major self-destruct problems with incorrect vane adjustment. Anyway, give these links a shot and see if they help; VirtualBiker Aerocharger noise test discussion My first Turbo install and a few questions Fuel economy on a turbo turbo help -JW:> |

Good links Jim. Anyone agree with the idea that Aerocharger turbo oil is the same as Mobile 1 gear oil, I think that is in both the first and second link Witty posted. |

Roc, I remember seeing on a link I visited a couple of months ago--but could never refind--a bit about Mobil 1 of some type being the oil in Aerochargers.Did not write it down, though--dummy. |

Jim and Firemanjim, If you want to limit your boost, you have to take the boost controller apart.Remove any shims(washers)that may be against the spring.Take the spring and rotate it horizantly against a belt sander to weaken it.The other option is to find the same length spring with smaller gauge wire. This makes the vanes in the blower lay down sooner. To increase boost without a switch, put a piece of steel or copper tubeing in the line from the boost controller to the plenum with a small hole in it.The bigger the hole the more boost you'll make.Be careful with the 110 blowers as they will self destruct with a steady diet of 15 lbs. and the more efficient new design plenums.I'll try to get to a PC with a scanner, and post some dyno sheets. HELP, I am losing power! June 2002 April 2003 The bike is as follows: 2000 M2 536 Cams HSR45 Carb 13:1 Ross Pistons Solid Lifters Ported, Polished & Flowed Heads NO Valve Guide Seals Tight Clearance Bronze Valve Guides Titanium Valves SE Springs SE Roller Rockers I also have various gearing for the chain, but I wouldn't expect that to effect power. Finally, I am asking where to begin to find the problem. I am a skilled mechanic, but if someone could point me in the right direction of where to start and what to look for, I would appreciate it. I am thinking compression & blowby testing, checking the valves, monitoring the Air/Fuel Mix, etc. Also, I DO trust the dyno run that I just did because the bike definitely feels down on power. Note the two things that I have changed between runs were adding the charging system back and changing from the buell race slip-on to the buell full race exhaust. Thanks, Dave |

Did you retune after adding the full race system. The optimum tuning for the slip-on may not be the same as for the full race system. Why wouldn't final gearing affect the dyno results? Do you get the same dyno chart results in any of the five gears? (Not trying to be a smart a**, just asking.) |

No, I did not retune for the full race exhaust. I will be throwing on an Air/Fuel meter and tuning it. I had really good success doing that on my street bike. It will be my first time tuning a Mikuni though. I can't recall the exact reasoning behind gearing not mattering on the dyno. I have another chart that is an all gear run instead of just fourth gear and the results are similar. |

Any ideas on where I can come up with a lighter gauge spring for this boost controller?I would like to try that first before taking my present one to the belt sander. Any of you guys have a problem with the boost hose/pipe section coming off under boost?Mine has done it several times, every time I cinch up the clamps, and added a heavy duty clamp at plenum. It just comes loose at a different spot.I have double clamped the boost pipe to flex hose at plenum, and put a clamp from shock reservoir at flex hose to plenum now.Got to get lighter spring for less boost, and then back to dyno. |

Jim, My Nieces’ husband owns a couple of machine shops here in Phoenix. In one shop they manufacture and specialized in “springs” for Aerospace and government projects (etc.). I’m sure they have some means of measuring spring tension (or whatever) of your existing spring and can make whatever you need. Give me the specifics and exactly (notice the exactly) what you want to accomplish and I’ll see what he can do. Who knows, maybe he'll do it for nothing (for me). Never had a problem with the hose or anything else with my Aerocharger. -JW:> |

Jim, Are the intake tubes under tension? Are they being pulled loose when the engine is doing The "HD boogey?" |

The whole unit is bolted to the bottom of the engine so it should all shake together. That silicone hose is slippery, hoping better clamps --and less boost help. |

Jim Witt, spring measurements are 1.625 length,1.1 O/S diameter,.090 wire size, both ends flat ground,no way to measure tension here at work.I need lighter to make less boost.I will try to find machine shop with valve spring tester. Thanks, Jim H. |

Jim, Send me the spring you have now and I'll have one or two made to YOUR exact specifications (example: 10% weaker, 30% weaker, if weaker is what you want). -JW:> |

Yes,turbo sits under/to the side,by left side cover. Not under any bodywork yet.Have to get it sorted out then fit body--or try to fit body.Who knows, may look like a stock S-2 this year??? |

Rick, I've physically seen Jim's bike and it's indeed one of the best looking Buells I've ever come across. The color is also awesome! The puppy also turned quite a few heads at Bonneville last year too. Everyone (notice the everyone) that walked by the bike stopped and chatted. -JW:> |

Rick, fender is from an RR-1000 like Aaron's.And after I was inquiring on how to procure one from the folks at Buell,lo and behold, one showed up on my doorstep, mysteriously. What a bunch of great people!!! Jim,I will work on getting that spring out to you after 1st week in May.We are gonna be playing in dyno room at Vallejo with Brian Nallin here. Thanks for the offer. |

Jim, Get a longer piece of hose, usually at a heavy truck shop, then weld a bead around each end of the charge tube and you should be in business. John |
