New guy here! I bought this 2000 M2 a few weeks ago from a family member who has owned it since 2001. He bought it as you see it here with thousands of dollars worth of modifications and only 1200 miles. I am very curious to see if anyone recognizes it and could shed some light on the bikes history. I haven't, but it looks good. Some of the mods from the picture I can say is -(Crossroads I think?) pulley cover -Marchesini wheels -Penske or Works shock (looks like a Penske) -Race Air cleaner -different turn signals -custom paint (frame as well I presume? Doesn't look like a stock color) | ||

Thanks Phelan - I wasnt sure where the pulley cover came from. There are Marchesini wheels, a Penske adjustable shock, Buell carbon fiber air cleaner, the rear turn signals are different and the custom paint. From the looks of it they added the flames and painted the frame to match the factory blue. I believe its the original blue because there are still stickers under the seat. The following is the remainder of things I have seen that aren't stock: -steering stablizer (make?) -polished side covers, triple trees, rocker boxes and rear sprocket -X1 front fairing and gauges -Micuzi carb -work done on heads -domed pistons -aftermarket cam -aftermarket stainless exhaust -Borla muffler w/ carbin fiber body -Traxxion Dynamics cartridge kit (assuming due to stickers on forks) -Braided SS brake lines Again, all this was done within a year and 1200 miles!   | ||

The carb would be a Mikuni, which is very good  . The exhaust header is a stock piece, but the stock may been painted. All the stock Buell headers are stainless. I don't know the make of the steering dampener, but if you find out, let me know- I have the same one. If there was headwork done, you may want to have it verified. The stock pistons have a 15* squish band, which is often confused with a dome from just the looks. They may be stock style forged pistons though, which would make sense, since it looks like the build was for a killer weekend-racer. Very nice bike BTW. | ||

Actually that looks like a Joker pulley cover. Damper looks like the Storz unit I've got on my bike. Those Borlas sound wonderful. Nice bike! Oh, those are stock M2 blinkers. | ||

Its actually been in the shop for the past couple weeks. The engine is getting rebuilt by Hoban's Cycle and Darkhorse Crankworks in Osman WI. Finding out what is actually inside is what has peaked my interest. Trying to match the pistons that were in it is whats holding up the show. The old pistons were sent out to have matching pistons machined and .010" over. At this point I am kind of wishing there was stock pistons in it but oh well. Thanks to everyone for the help and compliments, they are much appreciated. | ||

Question on the pulley cover. I had received a lot of comments about it in regards to the point of it. I know it came with a plastic cover stock but does the one I have really do a good job of keeping anything away from the pulley? Also, the pulley is covered in surface rust. Does anyone else have this problem and what do you do about it? Pull it off, clean it up and paint it? | ||

I would love to hear some feedback on the work done at Hoban Brothers. I have a dream of one day uping my M2 to a 88" conversion and was planning on using them to do the work. | ||

There's a European member here that has his front pulley drilled, looks like bare metal in his pictures. I'd maybe just pull the retainer plate thingy off and paint it with a rust converter/inhibitor if it's gonna be exposed like that. You can get a round cover plate from American Sport Bike but I don't think it will fit under the pulley cover (cool colors and CF or plain aluminum), it adds about 1/4 inch to the pulley. I ran without a cover for a while but had a leg of my carpenter jeans try to get sucked in once, that was... thrilling. You could also get a aluminum pulley if you are really concerned about the rust. They are available in several different tooth counts including stock. | ||

I have the same pulley cover on mine , never had a problem with it. I just packed paper around the pulley and sprayed in matt black.  | ||
