did the AHRMA event at Barber this past weekend. Threw the s1 down on friday, lowsided losing the rear on rains. no damage and no pain. raced sat first with the s1 on rains and ran 5th. got on the 1125 and fought back and forth for third and on the white flag messed up a banzai defense of a block pass in the roller coaster and i was sitting on the bench in the ambulance talking to the pretty paramedics and convincing them i was ok to let go. red flag left me in 4th instead of a dnf! the pretty paramedics came to check on me in the pits and found me helping someone bump start a 2 stroke for their race when it bogged down at my pit and the girls were off to find another victim. hit my head hard enough to split my helmet across the back withou separating. started fixing the bike but i had concentration issues flitting from starting one process to starting another. my ankle started hurting and i noticed i had some tailbone pain as well. at dark i went to dinner with some friends and hit the rack after dinner. woke up a little stiff and looking for my ankle brace. took a few advil and headed to tech with my riding gear and my spare helmet. got teched easy and got back to work. no more rain so i had to swap rims on the s1 to race tires. got that done and practice started. i was in 3rd and 4th practices so i still had some time to finish the 1125 and getting her teched. finished bolting up after an hour or so and went out to practice on the s1. felt a little awkward but didn't have any sensory issues other than the normal ones. put in some decent laps playing with an old 750 honda who was pulling me on the straights. passed him a couple of times only to miss a shift and let him back by. pulled in early to check pressures on the 1125 and be ready for 4th practice. went out and just tried to put in some solid laps but my brain wasn't handling the extra speed well so i pulled in after half session to check the bike. at this point races were 3 hours away. had lunch, picked up, started packing etc. to fill the time. they had a great airshow with the AEROSHELL T6's that woke everybody up. the racing started at 1. first race for me was race 6 on the s1. didn't get the best start and was passed in turn 1 by 4 or 5 guys and i just tried to ride solid laps and pick them off. the front 3 were long gone quick and by half race i was in 5th. i could see another guy ahead and started closing him on the brakes. caught him before the white flag and passed him on the white flag lap and finished 4th putting a personal best lap on the old s1 of 1:49 and change! race 9 was next for me and i got a little caught up with some friends races and picking up and generally not paying attention. i managed to hear 2nd call so i did make it to the grid on time. i had a good starting spot on th 2nd row but again let people by in turn 1. i just didn't have the fight in me this race because as i tried to wick it up i would follow it with a mistake. i concentrated on trying to just make clean laps and circulated in 5th for most of the race. on the 6th lap i was getting tired and must have backed off a bit because 1 bike took me on turn 1 and went by and another took me after the white flag so i finished in 7th. when i got off the bike i was pretty well spent. and sore. and satisfied to finish! next weekend-Daytona!! tim | ||

a couple of other Buell riders were there as well. Pat Mooney, #11x, a fast son of a gun with an 1125r who won the BOT Formula 1 races and the first Sound of Thunder race and Xen Stanhope from New Mexico? who brought an XB12R and an 1125R and was at his 2nd race weekend. he had fun and finished every race. glad to meet 2 more Buellers! ride on! tim | ||

Xen's number was 167. i talked to Brian, the fellow i was racing with during my get off, and he said that the guys behind us told him that i tried to pass him back at the outside of the second concrete lump at turn7 and somehow endoed. he said that he thought when he block passed me i would check up but the guys behind said i went in fast. i'm not sure if i launched in the air while trailbraking and still had the brake handle pulled when i landed or what. memory gap between hitting the concrete and talking to the paramedics. maybe someone else saw it and got some photos! i don't think i will try that manuever again! (it worked so well on the backmarkers earlier at a slower pace) Barber-still my favorite track!! bonus-got to meet Kevin Schwanz in the pits and get the handshake photo. i also got to tell George Barber personally that we motorcycle enthusiasts really appreciate everything he has provided there for us with the museum, track and amenities. one of the guys from Louisiana came up just to cook and when he was done smoking meat for 3 days he dumped the coals in the pine needle mulch and lit it up while i was racing. that brought firemen, security, and Mr. Barber himself. Mr Barber told me and the cook that the next time we had a Cajun BBQ at his track we better invite him! too much fun!! tim | ||

Glad you came out of it okay.. relatively so. Xen Stanhope from New Mexico? who brought an XB12R and an 1125R and was at his 2nd race weekend. he had fun and finished every race. It wasn't Xen's second weekend racing. It was his 2nd weekend with AHRMA, but I've raced with him 3 times, and he's race CCS over in AZ few times. I was out there the weekend before for the Michelin Championship, if I'd only had more vacation time. I'd have liked stick around and watch. Maybe next year. | ||
