Found this little gem and it makes me glad for a belt driven bike. Chains are such a pain and this shows how quite literal that statement is. warning its a bit gross.

Well, if you're a big enough idiot to start your bike and let it turn the wheel while you clean the chain, you would probably do the same thing trying to clean your belt.

I can't imagine getting your fingers caught in the belt would be any less painful.

At least he didn't say he was going to sue someone and admitted he did something stupid. Reminds me of the people who insist they can stick their hand down the chute of their snowblower to unclog it.

Exactly what I was thinking! I don't think the lesson is chain vs. belt, I think it's don't be a dumba$$ when maintaining your bike!

Just because he admitted to being a complete DUMA$$ doesn't mean that a lawyer can't "help" him to see how he was a victim in this.

I carried my friend Joe Banks' finger to his Mother when I was 6 years old...Schwinn Sting-Ray bit him.

Learn from others' mistakes.

most of us get a near miss doing something stupid like this, and then re-think the idiocy... I've done that several times, luckily without losing any appendages.

I read quite a bit of that gixxer thread. While unfortunate - the guy seems pretty humble and like he's moving past it. I'd F'ing flip out... my fault or not. tough break!

When I lubed my chain (thankfully I have no more chain driven bikes at the time), I just put the rear on a stand and spun the tire by hand.
