I bought my bike about 4 weeks ago, 2008 1125r. In the sale it included the fairings. I asked the dealership if they could address some issues. These being inoperable rear signals, melting the plastic fairings, heating of the fuel cell to the point where noxious gas fumes would fill my garage, mirrors that get pushed by the wind. Well this week they got busy. They insulated the fuel cell with with thick reflective insulation, wrapped my headers with header wrap, fixed the rear signals. The bike is running awesome. Next week they will replace the mirrors with a plan to modify with a drilled friction bolt in the press fitting. The service has been excellent. I guess I got lucky because they have one tech who's fond of Buells. Still have some low speed lurching that makes the bike tricky in traffic. Does anyone have input on addressing this low speed issue? Is it fuel mapping or some sensor issue? Or is it the nature of the beast and I just got to accept it? I noticed the ambient temp reading has dropped significantly since the insulation. Also, my left radiator fan kicks on at coolant temp of 170. This seems like a low setting for a fan to turn on. My last 2 bikes it kicked on at 210. Is that normal? Thanks |

Low speed lurching was a problem early on in the calibrations. There is a bit in the newer ones, I just live with it and try to get better at throttle control. It will be helped by updating to the latest flash if it isn't already. The left fan turns on, then a while later the right fan turns on. My guess is it is trying to stop overheating before it starts. Just have a single fan come on early, sometimes it will be enough. I don't know where the fan temp switch is, nor the coolant temp readout sensor, so it could be all kinds of different readings too. IIRC, my bike sits on about 78C when I am riding on the highway. Again IIRC, the thermostat fully opens at 76C, so I am pretty happy with that. James |

Surging--Make sure your bike as the latest ECM reflash. that will go a long way to helping the problem. 170 fan--Yes that is perfectly normal. |

Most 1125's can benefit from the aftermarket program ECM help. I know my 09, CR was a real bear to drive until I used this program. Light years...as they say...better. Coolant temp. went down, power and drivability...way up. Have fun with it. Mike |

On my '08R they replaced the Throttle Bodies, FIs, intake runners and used the '09 CR flash (141) to fix the miss. It works great! I put 600 miles on the bike this weekend, the most I've ever been able to do. Your dealer sounds very good, keep working with them. If need be have them call Eric at Cowboy HD in Austin, TX to ask him specifics. I think that if they only did the FIs and the 141 map you'll be good to go. |

Hellgate, how are the Throttle Bodies, FIs, intake runners different? I thought the only motor upgrades on the '09s was the fuel injector, o2 sensor location, and the ecm flash? |

Those fairing lowers require a little tweaking on the right side to ensure they have good clearance... yes the heat shield works but knowing how hot they get I added a couple of spacers to the right side to make it standoff the headers a bit more without detracting to much from the alignment from the front. I did notice it is easier to attach them starting up top with the upper fairing bolt first then working your way down to the lower two brackets. Hope they get yours running well, enjoy the ride! |

Geforce, I concur that you need to space out the right side a little or else the exhaust pipe could be in direct contact with the thermal barrier. |

Gbackus - The tbs have a slightly different linkage system; eg: the shape of the linkage bar has a rib where as the old one does not; they look the same but my mechanic had heard of issues with the throats not being completely round and butterflies hanging up. The factory said to replace it so we did, don't have to tell me twice. The runners look to be the same, the FI are completely different. The tbs are more of a morph/refinement instead of a revision change. (Message edited by hellgate on October 14, 2009) |

I find the aftermarket ECM programs very interesting. I am afraid of messing with these settings as I fear it will effect the manufacturer warranty. At this time I am happy with a stock bike. I plan to add sliders/protective parts and hot hands/ hot ass. I'd like to keep the warranty up with no hassle from HD/Buell. I figured this into the equation when I bought the bike, got the extended warranty. A little nervous with an introductory model. Thanks for responses. I hope to learn a lot about motorcycles through this ownership. |

will lining the inside and bottom of the frame/gas tank really stop all the gas evaporation? |
