So, by wife had an aunt that passed away in Michigan, and she drove up around the tenth of last month. I flew up on the fourth of this month from South Texas, and drove back with her.

I said to myself, Self, if you do some creative navigation, Deal's Gap is on the way back...

OMFingG. For a flatlander like myself, it was a bit of an eye opener. I was having some serious withdrawls, cause I was running down these roads created by the hand of a motorcycling deity in a friggin FX4 F-150. While it is a good handling vehicle, for a truck, it's just not the same...

Great couple of days, though, and I really envy those of you that live close.

Anybody else heard about them widening and smoothing the road? I read something about a state project that is basically going to destroy the Dragon as it exists now...

That would be tragic.

Carbon,

Arkansas isn't so far away, and it's close to as good.

Oh, I know... There are some pretty spectacular roads in the hill country west of San Antonio here in Texas, but that was epic. All roads are good roads, but some are better. And some are without equal.

I wonder if anybody has ever tried to organize a "race" down (up?) the Dragon. Getting the road blocked for a certain period, and running against the clock.

Hmmmmm.

Lot's of good roads in MO as well, not that much farther away.

The Dragon in an F-150. Classic Texas!! You can take the Bigfoot out of TX, but...

If you like the exhilaration of twisties, you might like a track day. Plenty of nice tracks in Texas, no doubt, and next to no traffic...

Getting a lot of emails on the STOP I-3 stuff going around. I want to say first and foremost, that I see no real reason for any of us to think that it would be reality putting a 4 lane interstate through a National Park over top of the Dragon. Second, to construct a highway like that in this area isnt realistic because of all the granite they would have to blast through to get the highway in, and they cant do that because of all the dams in the area. Its just not realistic folks. Enough on that.

That's really good news. I know people jack themselves up every day on that road (I saw 3 that day), but I would be tragic to change it. I don't like to use the word "magical" often, but here it applies.

I had to do the same thing last year- drove the dragon in an S10, towing a trailer with our bikes in it! It was sheer torture. We planned to ride it the next day, but I had truck issues I needed to take care of and then needed to ride south with some work vendors. I was literally RIGHT THERE, WITH THE BUELLS! lol
