Well that stinks. I guess I'll head on up tomorrow and get it over with for the year. I am starting to get a jones again so I think I'm gonna go Monday morning. I'll give you a ring sometime next week to see how things went at the farm. |

Jackson & Nuts, Last race of the 2009 season last nite.Mutant Warrior took it going away.2009 Open Vintage and 40+ Track Champion.I may have to break down and give that bike a special paint job this winter. Nuts, It looks like you got the real hunting retreat going on there at "The Farm" wish I could be there. |

Congratulations there Charlie! Along with that new paint job she probably deserves some chrome and billet accessories . As far as Nuts' getaway well lets just say its like heaven. No living soul has seen it but many people believe in it . Actually he said I was welcome to come up and thin out the deer population with a few stipulations. No shooting does or fawns however I can shoot all the 3 legged, one eyed bucks I want to as long as they only has one antler with no less than 15 points . The scales probably already think my rider has enough chome and billet on him.No need to weigh the bike down more. All this time I thought Nuts was a sharing kind of guy.....you mean he would do his best bud that way? |

Charlie, congrats to the Crew and Rider. Are you guys mentioned in Road racing World magazine? I think I'm going to start subscribing. What do you think about that Ben Spies kid? Honkson, you decided to "slow your roll" this week resulting in a missed hunt at the farm. What more can I say. |

Nuts, Not in any Road Racing Mag.(that I'm aware of) Was in Cycle News awhile back(had a pic in there) Ben Spies, I haven't keep up on him. Last I saw on tv, he was making a big splash in GP Racing overseas. When he was running AMA in the states, he was about the only one beating Maladin that I saw. They were team mates. |

Charlie, I've been following the kid all season. He's a rookie,on a brand new bike(that's down on power)racing at tracks he's never seen. He has an opportunity to win the World Superbike Title if he wins the next two races. It has been great watching him come in to the series and show what he learned in AMA. Next year he's going to motoGP to be a teammate with Colin Edwards. MotoGP has a new rule that rookie's cannot go directly to "factory teams" otherwise he'd be sitting next to Valentino Rossi! Check the speed channel for the race next week, should be exciting. Honky, I am now infected by the same bowhunting illness as you. I shot a spike last night and waited the longest 30 minutes of my life and went to where I heard the "thwack." No blood, hair, torn up ground or other sign. I went and got Pops and the dog as it was dark. The dog found my arrow and while not covered in blood the is a significant amount of hair on it and some small pieces of meat. We left the arrow and retraced the shot for an hour. Having 4 flashlight wasn't helping any so I called off the search until this morning. Hopefully, the sunlight will give me more perspective and we can find the deer. It has been a fitful night with dreams I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.NUTS |

I know it Charlie. Kind of like Saturn cars...they stripped them of their uniqueness and then dumped them after they couldn't keep selling re-badged chevy's. I wish Erik and the Elves all the best and look forward to his next big thing. NUTS jackie let me know if you'd like to get some practice in. I invested in a rangefinder too and I need to put some more time into the stick and string. NUTS |

Hi guys, been awhile. Does someone still own the hotdog shop "Franks for the Memories?" My youngun is at Va. Tech and I'm looking for some areas to ride over on the Roanoke side with my little Blast. Take her some local bagels and maybe ride on out to lunch..... |

Bryan, "Franks" is still owned by the same family as of June, though it's a little haul from BBurg. The BRP should start shutting down here pretty soon so I'd seriously encourage riding Rt42 through Goshen and down to 311 and Paint Bank and on down into BBurg. Lunch at Paint bank is terrific and Potts mountain is no easily forgettable stretch of road. There's a BBQ place called Paulie's Pig Out on route 151 just south of 250 that is less than pleasant to lok at but the food is terrific. You can ride 151 into Lynchburg or get off on 60 or 56 and link those to the BRP or routes westward easily. Phew, I need to chill with all these roads. This summer I went back and forth from Roanoke to Elkton weekly by every route possible. Lots of good stuff inthese hills. NUTS |

Nuts, Mom said you were at the farm. I thought we were gonna get you sighted in tomorrow? No worries, I'm gonna hit the 6 acre parcel tomorrow where a nice 10 was spotted just yesterday. I'm not fooling myself into thinking I'll see him but its nice hitting a place where there is some real quality deer. I went to the club this morning and the wind was wailing. It was cold and the wind made it that much colder. I didn't figure on seeing anything since the wind was going nonstop at 15-20mph however I did have quite the shock right around 7:40am. I heard some scuurying coming down the logging road and before I could even move I had 3 coyote trot right past me. I tried lip squeeking and every other noise I could think of but they just turned and looked while still heading away. Ranged them at 17 yards. I guess its safe to assume that they are indeed established up there. I also saw a group of 5 Toms with 3 being longbeards and 2 being two year old birds with 7-8in beards. Got them within shooting range but didn't let loose. Give me a call when you get home. |

Honky, you were 'sposed to call me Sat or Sun. I tried to call you Sunday and got the usual no answer. No worries, I had Gander Mtn help me mount my new sight Sunday morning and got loaded up for the farm. Pops helped me sight in for a couple of hours after seeing my visiting relatives off. We also set a new stand before lunch. So I get situated up in the stand by 4:10 and... 4:25 I see my parents dog come by 4:45 two longbeards walk within 15 yards 5:15 a momma and pup grey fox hang out for 10 min 5:30 fox squirrel comes running down the hill(thought it was deer) 5:45 partial albino fox squirrel comes to play 6:00 deer in the field 6:50 covered up with six deer within 40 yards I drew back on two deer but couldn't tell if they were does or yearlings. It was right at just a bit too dark to shoot. This time I passed and felt pretty good about it. NUTS |

Wow sounds like a good time Nuts! I got in th woods right at 2:00pm today and settled in for about 45 minutes before the squirrels started running around again. I had two longbeards come by just out of range but I doubt I woulda whacked one anyway. You know how I am with turkey. I decided to give up my last 30 minutes of legal shooting light and left right at sunset. As I was leaving I had the opportunity to whack a basket 6 under the apple tree at the edge of the yard but it really didn't feel like hunting since there was no excitement of waiting him out or hearing him come in. In my younger days he woulda been dead . Taking tomorrow of and then hitting it Thurs and Friday. Next week will be the same schedule. Give me a holler sometime spanky. |

Yeah I got it Nuts. Thanks for not leaving me hanging. Went out this morning and saw nothing at all which is quickly becoming the norm. I am going to go back to hunting afternoons next week and hunt HARD before the opening of muzzleloader on Saturday. Traditionally afternoon hunts are used during early season of archery while the temps are still mild. Don't know why I thought the deer would change their schedule for me but I have learned my lesson. This season started with real potential but has quickly turned into a nightmare. If no improvemnt is seen soon then I think I'll take a break until rifle season. |

Well, I made a deeper commitment to bow hunting on my way home this morning. After skipping this morning's hunt due to burn-out I steered the truck towards Dominion Outdoors where I found a new Parker to bring home. I decided give my old one to my Pops, that way I'd have someone there to suffer along with when the deer don't show. Wait'll you see this thing! It's another EZ-draw but shorter and of more refined quality. Let me know if yo want to go to the club to sight in the muzzleloader, I brought it home with me this time. NUTS |

Nuts, If you get kicked out for buying a new bow you can crash on the couch if you need too . We can go Sunday if you want. I guess it would be nice to have it done just in case I get desperate. Post up and we'll get it in the works. |

Jaxson, Sunday looks like a no-go for me. I'm going down to Mabry Mill for Buckwheat pancakes in the morning and attempting to watch 4 hours of motorbike racing starting at 3pm. Looks like my Ma is headed back to Florida next Sunday for 2 weeks. If you'd like to come up and play at the farm that'd be fine. I'd like to show you all the work we've done and the options we've created. That might require you to stay the night, so give it some thought. NUTS NUTS |

Honky, I talked to my brother John last night. His lease in Georgia borders a farm and was told that the farmer was granted a special permit to harvest deer at night with a spotlight. He was told the farmer took 100 deer off the property this summer in this manner. Now I have heard of a damage tag that can be given to farmers to help alleviate the destruction wild game can cause on crops, but 100 deer seems excessive. If I had John's lease I'd be pissed! In other news...I rode to Meadows of Dan yesterday morning for buckwheat cakes, buttermilk cakes, country sausage and gravy. That was a treat, I only ate 5 cakes and 5 servings of sausage. Then I followed Todd into North Carolina on his KTM 990. That my friend is NOT healthy. I worked in 235 miles before watching Ben Spies clinch the World Superbike championship and Valentino Rossi snare his 9th world title in MotoGP. What a day. NUTS |

Nuts, Probbably doesn't bother John too much since damage permits are typically for antlerless only. I went this morning and saw nothing except squirrels. There is so much mast that there is no way to know where they are going to be. Every oak, hickory or beech is loaded and they don't have to search out trees that were productive since they all were. I am getting really aggitated but am going to finsh out this week strong. If it doesn't improve I may go back to squirrel until rifle season opens. |

Went behind the tractor shed this morning and had a crapload of deer strolling past me from 6:30-6:55am. By the time legal shooting light rolled around they were long gone. No other sightings which I pretty much anticipated due to recent activity and the sheer amount of squirrels around my setup. I honestly have never seen that many squirrels in over 20 years of hunting. Hitting it tomorrow afternoon, Thursday afternoon and the Friday all day. Hope your having better luck than me! |

Brother, you need to get back to using the watch. Hunt according to the paws and you'll be more successful or have something else to blame. I have been out of the woods since last Thursday and it has been difficult. I had 3 deer in my front yard two nights ago! When I return to the farm next week the leaves will be off the trees and I'll have all new spots to look at. Can't wait. Good luck to ya. NUTS |

Funny you mention the watch. For the most part it has predicted horrible hunting for the past week which coincides with what I am experiencing. It is absolutely AMAZING how accurate that watch can be so.................I had to download me a similar program on my Blackberry . |

Out with a whimper. I overdid it yesterday and am hurting badly today so I'm on bedrest. I needs me a backiotomy. I pulled one of your tricks yesterday. Did the cross country walk from the tractor shed, to the upper logging road, to the very top of the property and then circled the lower logging road from just right above the cemetery back to the truck. About killed me but nice to finally see new parts of the property. That place needs a massive forest fire. With any luck one of the idiots that will be up there tomorrow will flick a butt into the dry leaves. Don't get me wrong, I don't want anyone hurt or any homes destroyed but if it sweeps through our 400 acres I'd be well pleased . I am almost certain I can get away Thursday morning and make it to the farm for an afternoon bow hunt. Then accept you and Pops' fine hospitality and crash there so I can partake of a morning hunt in paradise. Pick me a good stand please sir. One in the general vicinity of a mature doe and good sized buck will fit the bill nicely. |
