I don't know if this counts, but I bought my first Buell (96 S2T) from a guy in Oregon...sight unseen! Well, I had seen photos of it...a beautiful Parkway Blue (purple) with white stripes on the front fender and tank. I had never ridden a Buell though, and had only seen them on the street and in the showroom. He had advertised it on the web and had sold a few other bikes to folks around the country, so he had references. I called them and him and everything checked out, so he shipped it to me. I had it delivered to my office building in Frankfort, KY, and took my first ride on it to the gas station across the street and then home. It was an amazingly stable machine then, and now with an 88" engine, Penske shock, race tech forks, Mikuni 42, is even more so. After riding every model Buell made, I am thoroughly convinced that the S2 is the best Buell made. | ||

I did 945 miles in 14.5 hours full luggage and a passenger. Do I get a prize? I also did 421 miles (Elkhart Lake, Wi to Troy, Il) in under 5 hours once  | ||

Josh: Those are impressive numbers for two reasons. Number 1: The "with passenger" (even taking into account that your passenger sleeps) exponentially complicates things. When I am "doing distance" I've often had folks say "hey, I'd like to come with you". Nada. Speed contributes little to the effort, the key (and S2Rider will back me up) is filling the tank, riding it empty, filling it in under 5 minutes, and repeating the process. Synchronizing 2 bladders, fuel consumption, etc. makes it very difficult. Number 2: That's just darn good time. My best time was headed from Dollywood to the Honda Hoot near Ashville and came as a gift from a couple of guys on a TL and a 916 who decided, in a torential downpour, to keep wicking it up about 3 mph at a time until we traversed better than 60 miles at triple digit speed. 2nd best was the day I had to get from Mt. Saint Helens to Boise to meet a group of Buell folks and discovered about Pendleton, OR that I'd neglected to take into account the time zone change. Opps. Again, good luck and a 929 arrived together. Side by side the Honda and I wove through some beautiful country. Damnit....I stall can't shake the bug to do a NYC-SF-NYC "gun run" on an XB. Anybody got one they don't need for a week or so???? | ||

Court, helps when you get to KC,KS and the passenger realizes you won't get home quite as early as she'd like - and tells you you should go faster. "Uhm but we've been doing 95-100" "Ok, faster please"  | ||

I drove 800 miles to get my current Bike, then 800 more to get back home.  My wife and I were in the slow, sight seeing mode though. Three days. It was a fun trip and I'd gladly do it again. | ||

When it was apparent last year that my S-2 would not have the engine back from Mr. Nallin in time for the All CAl Brag ride I thought about going on my 955 Daytona,but then saw a 1995 Red S-2 on E-Bay.Next thing ya know its mine and I drive to San Diego from Vacaville(about 1100 mile roundtrip) and back on wednesday to pick it up.Thursday I serviced it and put on new tires,Friday I rode the bike back down to the start of the All Cal ride---IN SAN DIEGO. And saturday we left on ride where I mercilessly flogged that S-2 for another 1400 miles.And still have it. | ||

About 80 mph there, 12 hours bought the bike. Stayed 2 hours and left for 12 more hours straight home. It was worth it. Ken | ||

Just thought I'd chip in here. I flew about 5000 miles, from Belgium to Atlanta, Ga to pick up my Firebolt. I then rode it to Knoxville, Tn and then on to Denver, Co to meet up with the Elves. The plan was to ride on to Utha for the LSR run, but that got rained out. Rode around the Rockies for four days with a bunch of crazy bikers and then returned to Knoxville and Atlanta. 4500 miles in 2 weeks. Parked the bike in my mom garage 25 days after I picked it up and have not seen it since. That was in Sep 2002. Still trying to make plans for this comming year. SteveP | ||

Ok,Ok; rode the train to Springfield, IL and then drove to Milwaukee, loaded up the S2T and took the long way home. Springfield to Springfield took around 11 hours(precious cargo and great scenery on return trip). Springfield to St. Louis is only 150 miles or so but it went 'quickly'. For the right Buell, mileage doesn't seem to be an issue...simply a factor in the possession equation. | ||

What the Heck!!!!!Here's my story!!!!! Back in 2001 was with out a ride for about 1 year (previous ride was a KLR650) and looking for a new one. All da boys had Harleys so I thought of a Sportster Sport and hot rod it a bit - none to be found in Newfoundland so I decided to check out the websites of the shops in Nova Scotia. Found Harley Davidson/Buell Dartmouth - NS, called the Sales Manager and a week later I had a deal worked on a 1998 Billett Metallic S1 Lightning. I had never saw, sat on, rode, test ridden a Buell up close and my wife did not know if it was fit to eat. (She still lovingly mocks the S1) I then had to fly to Nova Scotia from St. John's, Newfoundland Newfoundland is considered to be the most Easterly Point in North America). I flew in late in the evening so I had to stay in a hotel for the night and was at the dealership early the next morning before they were open. Picked the bike up and started my trek home. 1500 road kilometers and a 6hr boat ride later I was back in St. John's home with the S1 almost 48 hrs later. The S1 is one of the only two Buells on the island and the other is a 98 S3 which is about 800km away. I would not trade the S1 for anything - well maybe a RR or an RS but even then it would be a very difficult decision. No matter where I park it there will always be someone stopped or slowing down to look at it. I took it for coffee Saturday Morning and while it was parked outside it was being visually raped. I almost had a new 1999 Billett Metallic S3 but the family van gave out and had to be replaced so hopefully in a years time I will find another S3 or maybe the one I want will still be there. People that own Buells are usually very unique people and most of the time their bikes will reflect that individualism. We are "Different in Every Sense" | ||

There needs to be an handicap for smaller seat models such as the S1 and early M2's, otherwise a distance comparison would not be fair. I went from Augusta, GA to Myrtle Beach, SC and then on to Atlanta in one day (ca. 10 or 12 hours) about 650 miles. Like Lawrence Of Arabia, I got home with saddle sores. | ||

I went 1500 miles round trip,to get my '96 S2T. Test ride was in snow,it tried to loft the front wheel,which produced a grin you couldn't wipe off with a 2 by 4.Best damn motorcycle purchase I have ever made! Mike | ||

I bought both my Buells from the same dealer, who was 4.3 miles from my house. I bet I grin just as much as anyone else on a Buell does. | ||

Almost 100 miles from my driveway to the dealership Jan.02 for my X-1W, same 100 miles first Sat this past March for my XB9R. Third bike in 2 years from same dealer, Flint River H-D in Albany GA. If they weren't good, honest people I wouldn't have spent so much so happily (and I AM one happy boy with 2 Buells and a Superglide). |
