Is "HD Sport Trans. fluid" the same as "HD Formula+ Trans. and Primary Case Lubricant" ? I have two quarts of Sport Trans Fluid I have never opened , but noticed in my manual says to use Formula+ Trans. fluid .

Isn't that what they used to use back in the day before Formula+? Would something that old still be good?

Its only $10 for the F+. I'd get some.

BTW I prefer the F+ over the Syn3, feels a lot better to me.

Amsoil also worked pretty well but I got some metal shavings last change, will be interesting to see how the drain plug for the tranny looks after 2000 miles with the Formula+.

I just put Syn3 in my primary, and it smoothed out a lot of stuff. I like it, so I'll stick with it. I would get new stuff. My .02

Sport Tran preceded Formula, but not that long ago. Oil doesn't go out of date. Using it wouldn't hurt a thing. It never caused any failures in early Sporty's or Buell's.

Oil most definitely does go out of date. It will separate over time. Most manufacturers have the shelf life posted somewhere. I think its around 3-5 years for most synthetics. There's a thread around here somewhere about it.

use the sport trans. it will do Fine. I ran it all my buells before Formula+ rolled along.

My 03 XB9R shop manuals says use Sport Trans.

Buell specs Formula + for the primary/trans lubrication.
In 17k miles, I've never had a, trans/primary, failure due to lubrication.
As for shifting, a properly adjusted clutch (and shift lever geometry) is all that is needed. Any claimed "improvements" experienced with any other lubrication, IMO, is placebo...

If ya really believe that, pour a quart in a mason jar, seal the lid, and set it on the shelf in your garage. Post the results here (with a pic) when you see it separating. I'll be waiting.

I'm not a Chem E, but I have used a lot of very old oil.

Do not use the HD sport in your Buell.Your 07 has the redesigned tranny and it calls for the Formula +. Sport belongs on pre 06 or syn 3 could be used.
