Good news!!! An unexpected bonus at work (in lieu of a pay raise) has provided me with just enough funding to camp, eat hot dogs and race at the WERA GNF!! |

The bad news... On lap 4 of practice, I was coming up the hill out of turn 5 while on the rumble strips. As I near the point at which I return to the track I see a hole and was unable to avoid it. Hitting the hole sent my bike into a violent tank slapper at over 100mph. I nearly recovered it, but ultimately the bike spit me off like someone hit the eject button!! I slid for a good while on the track and into the grass, right along side the concrete wall. The bike stopped behind me. For the most part, my safety gear did it's job. Major damage to the bike; broken shift linkage, bent left hand bar and broken right footpeg. The frame and swing arm got a bit dented, but nothing major. Helmet and gloves are toast. The really bad news... My ankle blew up the size of a baseball and I shaved 2/3rds of my pinky finger nail off on my right hand!! From looking at my left boot, there were no drag marks on it. It looks like the bike whacked my ankle really hard or landed on it at some point. The good news... A trip to the hospital revealed no broken bones. Mike and Paul cleaned the bike up and got it back in running order. If I can get my foot wrapped good enough in the morning, I am gonna try and run at least 1 race. If not, I am spectating for the rest of the weekend. I applogize to Marty and Peter (RedBuell Junkie). They both stepped up to help get me here and now it looks like I am out before I even get to race. |

The most important thing is you are in one piece. We are all very proud of you for earning your way to Nationals- what an amazing year! Keep that ankle iced and elevated and listen to your body- don't push through the pain... there's always next year. (Message edited by redbuelljunkie on October 08, 2009) |

Raced HWTSS today. Finished 6 out of 7. The injuries weren't an issue. I just didn't have ANYTHING in the straights for the Ducatis, Triump and a few SV1000s. I was held up pretty good in the corners by an SV1000 though. He would get 20 or so bike lengths on me on the back stretch and I would late brake and catch him on nearly every turn. My ankle is holding up pretty good. It looks like I will run tomm (hoping the rain holds off). I stand a good shot at a podium in LWTSB! More to follow... |

9th place in HWTSB. They ate my lunch in the straights and I was not able to hang... LWTSB. I starting on the front row and was third going into T-1. I braked way too early and was passed by a flurry of riders. I started making time up and passed a few. I was in 5th or 4th. As I was coming down the hill out of 9 I showed a wheel to a motard going into 10. I backed out at the last minute to let him through. Unfortunately he lost the rear and I was stuck within an insant decision; hit his bike, hit him or hit the brakes. I hit the front brake while still leaned over and instantly went into a lowside. I tumbled and slid and my bike ended up hitting him as he slid. I got up and ran off the track. The bike suffed a broken shifter peg. I jambed my right thumb. The motard rider was ok (and later fiund me and apologized). End result was a DNF... Although I had a LOT of fun, the GNF was not kind to me. On a postive note, I have been invited to test ride a Triumph 675. We'll see how that goes! |

The motard rider is one of the reasons you are racing.... that was/is Pete Cline. He is the guy that got me into racing... Depending on how he finished that race, he would have got 3rd place in the nation... but thats racing! Glad you and he are OK Keep us posted on the 675 |

Correction for HWTSS; 5th out of 7. Also set my fastest lap time of 147.2 at Road Atlanta during this race. The motard rider was 414. We were not racing for position so I don't know what he was thinking. I believe I was in 4th or 5th place at the time of the crash and gaining! SO I could have been 3rd fastest in the nation!!! GNF Tally; 2 get offs at speed, 2 broke shifter arms, 1 broke right peg, 1 bent left handle bar, 1 broke fairing stay, 2 helmets, 1 pair of gloves, 1 bruised ankle, 1 sore ankle, slight rash on the inside of my right knee, lost 2/3rds of my right pinky finger nail, jambed right thumb and some bruised ribs (whould you like some sauce with those?LOL). |

In a week or so I will start addressing the engine, it is making a terrible rattle. Hopefully it will go well on my findings. I will do the mods allowed in the stock class, then it will be ready for next season after i address the fuel maps. I will do it with the live updates from dual wide bands on the track. Hopefully it will get us where we need to be. That is being competitive, we have to stay in the stock classes for that to happen. This makes parts very limited I can use. mike (Message edited by xoptimizedrsx on October 14, 2009) |
