I think on average most folks change their engine oils in the 2500-3500 mile range. And majority of people (by far) prefer synthetic oil. I change mine every 3500 miles with Royal Purple 20-50. |

Full synthetic oil and I start thinking about changing it at 3500, but I'm not in a rush. If I am getting closer to 4500 miles, I change it ASAP. I wouldn't go over 5000 under any circumstances. Normal or semi synthetic and I wouldn't go over 3500 miles before changing it. And I would think about changes closer to 3000. This is based on real studies of viscosity breakdown on an air cooled Honda somebody did and posted a long time ago. That is the most objective data I have seen. |

I drive high mileage 2nd cars , vws have the same head temps and find the high mileage oils very good for all. napas filter is smaller( for the toyota yaris )but I no longer have the oil light at low idle. no foaming. I change my oil when it just turns in color ,that varies from machine to machine. oil is cheap and like your clothes after every shower. I was recomended by an old hd shop to use 20/50 in the box, and keep the clutch cable right at 1/16 slack for a good neutral. |
