"HOLY vTwins! - Last March I purchased the 1125CR...I paid a tad bit below MSRP, what a great motorcycle.

Last weekend, I was at California H-D / Buell in Harbor City and on the floor, they have a brand spanking new 1125CR Red for only $6999.00 plus the state fees
I asked them what gives and they said we only have one red one in stock and it needs a new home. HOLY vTwins someone needs to jump on it ….what a freaken deal !

That doesn't make sense, they could sell it on craigslist in under an hour for that price. I havn't heard of a new 08 for much under 8k out the door.

Hadn't seen cbr's that low. Saw $7995 at some powersports dealer my brother took me too. That's funny with the lifetime engine warranty. Guess the talk of them burning oil and such was true.

Every brand is hurting. It's gonna be a long slow climb out of this hole.

Good price on that cr, especially in CA.

If you have your heart set on an 1125r, the Harley dealer in Garland TX has a handful of 08 and a couple of 09 models for $7995 + fees.

Not sure what the OTD price would be, but at that base, it's got to be good.

We always price ours without "fees".

Just taxes and tags.

Jdugger, I'm in Kalamazoo Michigan and bought it at the local dealer. It was the last one at that price, sorry. It is a new 2007 model.

One dealer has the '09 CRs at $9999, I've heard the other dealer in town has them for $7999. I'm going to drop by the other dealer this weekend and see if the numbers add up. I would love to park a CR in my driveway. Of course it would mean getting rid of my beloved Uly.

An "apples to apples" comparison is always a good idea. The list price of the bike alone is not a good comparison. It's all about the "out the door" price to me. I never negotiate the price of the vehicle or the payment. I usually have financing through my credit union and walk in knowing how much I need to spend. I ask for that amount and I keep in mind that a dealer has to make a profit to stay in business. I don't mind that. Capitalism is a good thing.

I also want to buy from someone who will back the product and support me if I need it. That adds value to the equation to me.

I agree with you Chadhargis and both dealers in town seem to have pretty good support. I bought my Uly from one of them and they have been fairly supportive, but I know people who stay away. I gave them first shot last weekend to work a deal with me. Now it's the other dealership's turn.

you know what would sell more bikes? Paying more for the trade in! It's such a hastle to sell your own bike then work out a deal later... I'd definitely would be interested in upgrading to an 1125 but probably going to get nothing for my XB. That goes for other brands too.

The problem is that there are two sides to the trade-in equation. When you boil it all down, there is a "spread" that encompasses both your trade and the new bike purchase. We can offer you a high trade in, but this means that we must sell your bike at a high price to recoup our "purchase" of your bike. The market will only bear so much price on your used bike. When we sell it, if it's for a loss, we must make that loss up in the sale of the new bike to you. This means that we must charge more on the new bike to make this price up.

Ex. We offer you KBB trade in of $3,500 on your bike and can sell it for $4,000. We sell you a bike at $9,000 that cost us $8,250. The potential profit in both sides of the deal is $1,250.

We could offer you $5,000 for your bike in trade in, but we still can't sell it for more than $4,000 because that's what the market price is. We must then sell you the new bike at $10,500 to make the same $1,250 profit.

The spread is exactly the same. If it makes you happier to see a higher trade in value, we can work the numbers any way you'd like.

There isn't an endless supply of profit in the deal. Dealers must leave a little room in the price they offer in trade in to accommodate the time it takes to sell the bike in the open market. Every day that passes and the bike sits on the floor, it fetches less money. Same goes for new bikes.

It's all about what you have "in the bike" that matters.

We try to be as transparent about the deal as possible. It's what I would want as a buyer. It's what I assume my customers want in THEIR dealings with us.

Is the 08 CBR's so cheap because of the oil burning issue? Or is it that all new bikes are just going crazy cheap.
I kind of have a thing for Arilia's RSV 1000R. Now might be the time for me to pick one up if I can get it at a huge discount!

All bikes are being offered for less now than a year or two ago. I think the cbr's looks hurt sales. I know that's superficial but it was the big bitch when photos were released. I hadn't heard of the oil burning issue until just the other day. Been a while since i payed attention to the in-lines. I'm sure that talk also puts a damper on sales and is the reason for the claimed lifetime engine warranty.

If you crave an ape check around. Probably can find one reduced.

The CBR's burn oil fast! A guy at work has an 08 CBR1000rr that he bought new a few years ago. He adds more than one quart of oil every 400 to 500 miles.

Another issue with the CBR's is the cost of insurance for many riders.

Eh, I always think the pound as 2:1, cause that's about what you pay after exchange fees.
