I've had my Uly for 2 months now and it was time for the 5000 mile (8000km) service. After I completed the service with the chin spoiler off I did a complete visual and noticed that there appeared to be a bolt missing. I checked the service manual and sure enough I'm missing the Front Muffler Mount Fastner (bolt and nut)  As well when It came time to put the chin spoiler back on I was short a few fastners as well. I'm left with 3 sholdered longer torx bolts and two short torx bolts. I should have 5 right and left side fastners and two for the middle. So my two questions are: Can someone tell me the part number for the Front Muffler Mount Fastner? Are the two shorter torx bolts for the middle of the chin spoiler? Front Muffler Mount Fastener: AA0518.2CZB SCREW DA0500.10CZ LOCKNUT. There are two bushings inside the muffler mount (just in case you lost them): S0136.02A8 BUSHING, front muffler mount (2) And the two screws are: AA0404.11CXVB SCREW (2) BA0409.6BL WASHER (2) From a 2007 XB12X Ulysses Model Parts Catalog. | ||

Your bike will be a lot quieter with that bolt in place. Check the 2 straps that hold the rear of the muffler. Make sure they are both still there. | ||

BTW, this winter would be a good time to remove your muffler and have it ceramic coated. That will stop the rust. | ||

Now is a good time to get rid of the torx bolts that hold the chin spoiler on and go to stainless steel allen heads. The stock torx strip very easily. DAMHIK. I've been replacing all the cheesy torx bolts with either stainless or alloy allen heads. | ||

I ordered the bolts that hold the brackets for the hard cases...got the brackets off eBay. Dealer wanted $98 for the bolts. I think I see how Buell makes its money...through vibration loss replacement! | ||

Are the two shorter torx bolts for the middle of the chin spoiler? The two that hold the front of the chin spoiler on are black. The others are not colored. And yes, I do believe they are shorter. | ||

Ok now I may have a real problem. Dealer says that the Front Muff Moutn Fastner is not in stock and will take two weeks to come in. I'm leaving on a 1500 mile trip on Oct 14, 09. I'm going to call around to see if someone has them in stock, but in the meantime any idea what size this bolt and nut are? length and diameter? I may need to come up with my own solution. So now I found a replacement bolt, however it needs to go in from the oil filter side, and of course the oil filter is in the way. (the brand new one I just put on)  well on further review the service manual drawing shows it going in from the left side but the bolt I bought from the hardware store has a 1/2 inch head which is to big. So I ended up buying a 5/16 stainless allen headed screw and stainless nyloc nut. From a local fastner supplier Worked like a charm for two bucks. |
