How negotiable is freight and set up? The dealer wants $500. They have already lowered the price over $1600. |

Both are hard dollars the dealer pays for. - The freight is one for one, meaning the dealer pays for the freight. - Setup is a little softer, since the tech is paid less than the shop rate. But with dealer's overhead, there's little room for movement on the shop rate. |

Don't ever talk to a dealer about each fee. Just settle on a total out the door price. Compare what they are offering with other dealers online or nearby. If a dealer in another state is selling at a certain price, figure adding in your state's sales tax plus DMV fees to get what a comparable OTD price would be. When you compare OTD prices it's apples to apples. When you get the fees in there you're leaving yourself open to surprises when you actually sit down to sign papers. |

Precisely what I do. I ask for THE price a week in advance. I explain I am having a certified check prepared in that amount and that's all I am bringing. I also ask for ANY papers the dealer will want signed a week in advance. Anything changes, I restart my clock. I don't mean to be difficult but I felt sorry for dealers who'd hand me a 7 page small print document as I sat for 2 hours carefully reading it. I read contracts for a living . . . it's habit. |

Way to go Court! Everyone should read them, even though they maybe standard, you still really want to know what is in the document. Ask questions also. My Dad, a retired attorney, put that one in me. I didn't think to ask for closing docs on the house ahead of time. I was not popular at closing. Actually my wife got after me a few weeks ago, when I was in a hurry and didn't go through the fine print when we had a new garage door installed. Now if I could just get her to be on time, I'd feel like life is complete. LOL |

My dealer is firm on price, but they always waive freight and setup for me. OTD price is the way you have to go when you compare, but since you aren't comparing, it can't hurt to ask them to remove those and see what they say. |

Really doesn't matter what Frieght and set up is. OTD is what you pay. When I purchased mine we just agreed on A price and rthe sales gal made all the numbers come to excactly what we agreed on. |

Thanks for the advice, yes I'm asking out the door price and if they can beat the lowest price quote I've gotten. Like Court I'm bringing a check for the exact amount, no more and am prepared to walk away if something has changed. Thanks again |
