IIRC correctly, the plug wires are different between the FI and carbed bikes. Dunno if it's a different type connection on the coil side, or if they are just different lengths, but you may want to verify that before buying anything. | ||

The coil end on the FI bikes is a smaller nipple connection. I bought a set of orange X1 wires early on thinking they would work for me on my M2. No go. You can clip those ends off and replace them with the standard automobile (old style points cap) ends in a pinch. Alternate is a set of Sportster non FI wires. Make sure not to use a straight plug end on the rear cylinder though. The wire will rub up against a metal bracket and get cut all the way through the insulation without notice. Then on the road yer screwed. Straight end on the front seems okay. Safe ride, Gary, DPG | ||

Those were good for the old '68 Camaro, but even then you would get/cause radio noise. Pretty sure everyone is using resistor wire now especially with the electronic ignitions. Used to keep an allen wrench sitting on the intake hi-rise manifold for the points in those daze LOL! Metal core wires are still probably the norm for track only motors though. Try www.magnecor.com I bought a set of the 8mm for my S1W 8 + years ago and they have functioned flawlessly. I have also bought wires for some Ironhead Sportster projects and have had good experiences with this company.   | ||

Andy, I actually cut those wires and did the end changes. Worked fine until I found that the rear wire was being cut up when rubbing against that bracket. That's why I mentioned that issue in another thread. You can see in the pics from Buellrod why a straight plug terminal is a tough fit on the rear plug. Wire goes right up into the petcock. Have a new set of black 8.8 wires on there now. The orange ones were off eBay, so keep an eye out there. Safe ride, Gary in Oaktown | ||

Do not be surprised if running solid core wires on your FI buell throws it for a loop. Killed my friends speedo sensor in less than three miles. Who knows what the other sensors are picking up.  | ||

Buyer beware, the OEM and SE plug wires should not have the wires 'tied' with less than a 3" radius or the wires can be damaged. The original packaging was a bag with header card to allow them to be dropped in. I know that a lot have been tied tight, which is bad as it damages the core. | ||

I bought a set of screaming eagle plug wires for a 1200 from my local HD dealer $16.00. been happy with them. Once in a while ya can get a deal from the dealers. | ||

I placed an order with Magnecor today. Very nice on the phone and he answered my questions regarding the thicknesses. I should receive them later in the week. I'll post back when I do. |
