You may find this interesting... but not surprising. The October '09 edition (pg 74-75) has an evaluation of the XR1200. I quote: "While Buell's roadracing-inspired models do offer a Harley-Davidson derived engine, their layout and handling are considered by many to be quirky and too unconventional" Hmmm - Wonder if Mr Meyers has ever ridden a Uly? Oh well - one persons floor is another's ceiling. I like the XR, but don't think I'll be trading in the XB soon.

But can you dispute the fact in this statement. Many do consider it to be quirky and unconventional. Buells are, and I like it like that.

As a frequent Roadrunner reader I would say they are very Buell friendly. Many of the last years trips were on a ULY. Reading the Roadrunner mag I believe many of the writers are quirky and unconventional just like the diverse reviews and topics in the magazine.

I demo'd an XR1200 and found its layout to be quirky and unconventional. Your upper body is in an upright cruiser position and your foot controls are arranged for a more sporting position. The shifter was positioned so low that upshifts were nearly impossible. It didn't appear to be adjustable. The seat is nice and high. But, so are the footpegs. That ruins it for someone over 6'. I was disappointed. Europe can have it.

Yup, quirky and unconventional. Describes the nut behind my handlebars.

So whats normal ?? I suppose because we chose these infernal machines as our 'rides' & associate with like minded misfits through BWB... we see 'em as being normal. I guess the way fellow asylum inmates see their peers. Forgot that Buells (and Uly's particularly) are iconic, and confuse folks as to what they are. I don't hear of HD or BMW riders getting comments like - "Man, what the hell kind of insect is that ? Odd looking bike!" I'm flattered. j

Spock said, "In an insane world a sane man must truly appear insane." Guy at work yesterday told me my bike doesn't sound like a v-twin. I just said thank you. He also told me it didn't look like a Buell. whatever that meant. It is often easy to not understand what someone thinks they are saying. Whatever this means.

Ha! Yes...insanity is relative. I did finally solder the bridge in the headlight switch so both are on in highbeam mode. Now all the nice people won't feek compelled to tell me " hey Mr...you got a headlight out"
