so i was test riding a 1125r, and it seems not to like it unless really high up in the rpm, where it would go in a lot smoother but didn't seem like it still, wasn't to smooth. Is that tranny not intended to shift like the jap counterparts? i.e. cbr/gsxr/r1? you can shift up into the gears with easy with no clutch | ||

Is that tranny not intended to shift like the jap counterparts? I would say it is intended to shift like or better than them. No offense meant, but why not just use the clutch. The corners of the dog engagements, shift forks and shift drum will appreciate it in the long run. (Message edited by dentguy on September 26, 2009) | ||

Clutchless upshifts on the 11...or any other ride with a rev limiter!; Hold LIGHT pressure on the shifter lever... PIN the thottle and don't let off! 4Get the clutch!  As soon as she bounces off the rev limiter, you'll find the next gear! LOL! Works like a charm until you learn how to shift @ a lower rpm ***** (9krpm) which is proven better!  Enjoy...mm | ||

Clutchless shifts are a wonderful way to retain heat in the fingers of the left hand. It's amazing how fast and how much heat a clutch lever can pull out of your fingers when it's 20*F outside. Other times, it's just smoother when I'm laid down on the airbox. Z | ||

It must have been the one you rode. Due to the Vacuum assisted clutch you only have to slightly let off of the throttle and the increase in vacuum opens the clutch slightly and there you go, it goes into the next gear. Mine up shifts better than any street bike I've owned, and I've had several Japanese bikes and also Italians. I would have to compare the ease in witch it does clutch less up shifts with some of the two stroke dirt bikes I've had. Its that good. Now the brakes are another story, but shifting is a non-issue | ||

Mine (CR) shifts like it was made to be shifted clutchless. Very smooth, very positive. Funny all the detractors..can't do this, can't do that. Been clutchless shifting (up and some down) for many years on various bike (and cars) with zero ill effects. I say zero...what I mean is, no reason for any fixing...in at or near 100,000 miles of driving, each, with three different Japanese bikes... It...IS... a little tuff on my XB..! The flywheel effect keeps a smooth shift from working well till the higher gears. Mike | ||

+1 My CR is the best transmission I've ever experienced. Positive, quick, light....it's almost telepathic. Never missed a shift with it. | ||

Perhaps it's the newness of the bike you rode (you mentioned it was a test ride; a new one, perhaps?). I asked the same question when mine was new, last December; and got encouraging responses as above about clutchless shifts on the 1125. At first at least the downshifts were clunky; but for a very long time both up and down shifts are effortless on my R. So, fear not. | ||

I let a friend of mine, who's a die hard Japanese bike lover, and he said, "I have to admit, if I'd have ridden the 1125 I probably would have seriously considered it over my FZ1. It's awesome, and the transmission was the best I've ever used. It was like butter". This is a guy who HATES Buell, so it was hard for him to admit how good the bike was. He kept on saying how impressed he was with it. Maybe my CR is just an exceptional example, but it runs fantastically. | ||

Mine works fine both up and down. 1-2 or 2-1 is somewhat of a harsh ride, but other gears are fine. The trick is actually light inputs. Barely back off the throttle and gently coax her into the next gear. Works best if at a leisurely pace. That said, sometimes she likes it rough. | ||

I swap between the XB and the 1125r almost every other day to ride to work. And after all summer long going back and forth between the two it is amazing the difference between them. | ||

Spent a whole day on track with my 11 wednesday... Can't remember using the clutch more than a handful of times. This bike is super smooth. | ||
