I was wondering does anybody now of any good timed runs up 181 from last store on right before big left sweeper up to gas station on left at top of mountain, which is by my odometer is right at 14 miles. I was up there a couple of weeks ago and my best time with a little traffic was 10 minutes up and the Sunday morning trip home was 14 minutes down. Thanks Dean Bush |

Dean Stop at the store and talk to the owner/racer! They are great people and I'm sure they could tell you if there is some sort of timing chart out there. There are a few friends of mine who run it every weekend on Gixxer's, one guy is pretty fast, plus he is a BailBondsman so he has a temdency to "get a little help" from the locals! |

Hwy 181 is a lot of fun, I ride it several times weekly. Don't think Tom is at the Jonas Ridge store much anymore, but a good place to take a break sitting on the porch. Highway patrol works Hwy 181 heavy, particularly on weekends. A lot of bikes, racers and tourist. Weekdays are better for me. Mid-mornings have light traffic. Sometimes no traffic all the way up the mountain. |

To be fair, it's easier with a passenger on the bike, because she compresses the suspension. |

Bonnie is right about Troopers working this road, no side roads to escape on until top of mountain. And this is one reason this is probably the best run in the mountains, good road surface, visibility, lots of passing areas and light traffic on weekdays. Weekends are definitely hectic. |
