So I'm thinking of adding a tuber to the stable. My current Buell, an 09 XB12XT is a great bike but my first Buell was a 01 Cyclone M2 and I've been looking for another. Meanwhile this X1 has come up and looks very good. http://www.usedvictoria.com/classified-ad/8817125 I'm concerned about the early fuel injected bikes. Riding buddies back then had issues the dealer struggled with. Looking for advice, should I steer clear or go for it? Are parts available? Any other issues? Thanks for your input. Mike |

Parts are available just fine. The fuel injection is great, but then again I understand ECMSpy and the Bueel FI systems fairly well. I am pretty well convinced that I am currently armed with a greater knowledge of the FI system than the Buell shops were when the bikes came out. The internet is a wonderful thing. My advice- don't buy one unless you are equipped to wrench on your own bike...you will have to do little things on a regular basis (that's 1/2 the fun!). The FI is nothing to worry about, but you ought to study up a lot on it and get a cable and EcMSpy. |

I own a 2000 X1 and agree with everything Andy said. I personally think the FI system is very robust and tuner friendly (with ECMSPY) and most of the failure modes are well understood over the past 10 years or so. I can't comment on the price but the bike looks quite stock with the only visible upgrade being the shifter linkage. |

Blue Stripe (limited) edition, PM wheels, looks like a White Brothers E-Series Exhaust (good power, some have had problems - mine did fine, copied and zoomed pic but still can't tell if front exhaust hanger has been updated, I'd replace it and get a deflector for that pipe) Pegasus subframe grills (personal pref sort of thing), maybe a Pegasus clutch cover (matt finish? zoom is also inconclusive, maybe with a better monitor...) Low mileage... is that a good price in Canadian dollars? Stock (early pre recall style) X1 remote res shock, upgrade it when it blows (hard to rebuild look for a Works Performance starting around $650-900 US, $950-1150 for Penske). New stock upgrade shocks are being found on the internet for pretty cheap, but you'll be taking chances on finding one. Good looking bike and you've got the excellent internet support of Badweb to help you through the growing pains. If you like X1'a and can check it out it may be worth your time. |

The price is a little high on that one. The X1 is awesome if it is stock. Just don't modify it, It gets addicting and expensive |

Okay, looks like 1.074 Canadian to 1.0 US. Still a bit high at a comparative $4516.00, but then there is the availability factor... Offer $3900 or so? |

First I gotta say the Badweb community is awesome. After a seven year break I'm glad to be back. Thanks for the advice and tips, this makes me more inclined to purchase this bike. Andy noted.. Not a problem there, I repair cars all day and tinker with my bikes at night to unwind and relax. I can share more info about the bike with this email from the owner.... "Hi Mike, thanks for your interest in the Buell. I have owned this bike for a year in a half or so. The muffler is not stock it is a Vance and Hines new this season. All repairs are done by "Jeez Louise" Custom motorcycles who is a Harley Mech.. he is top notch. All parts are still available for this bike from Harley dealers everywhere. This bike is mint needs nothing. Give me a call to come by and have a look.. Jim This X1 has been for sale since April. I think he will take quite a bit less, maybe 3500. Buells are unpopular here and hard to sell. Only a few hardcore Buellers exist locally and most are loners, unlike the harley mob. Planning to view this weekend and decide. |

I paid $5500 for my 2000 X1 in very similar condition (10k miles, well taken care of, bone stock other than race ecm and V&H muffler) I spent more than I should have for the bike, but it "spoke to me" and I'm glad I made the purchase. If this X1 "speaks to you" as well, then go for it. |

Well I'll find out Saturday morning. I asked about the rear shock, the original leaked, was replaced with a 2001 unit last year. Could that be the recall shock? |

"If this X1 "speaks to you" as well, then go for it." Funny you said that. When I bought my '00 X1, I knew nothing about Buells, just the brand name. I saw it at the curb on my way to see another bike (a 2001 Sportster). Pulled over, took a test ride, rode it home later that afternoon. It "spoke" to me. I haven't looked back since. A truly awesome bike in every respect. |

Viewed the X1 today, very disappointing. Looked great in pics but not so good up close. With only 6,000 miles it should be near mint but was far from it... maybe the speedo was replaced. Oh, well the search continues....part of the fun! Took out an 1125CR for a two hour test rip today, that bike is nuts! Sweet motor, aggressive, angry.. stunningly powerful! Far too cramped for me, was glad to get back on my comfy Uly. |

If you are still looking then put a premium on 2001 models. They had all of the recalls and upgrades sorted from new and are far better for it. |

Thanks, that's why I bought the new 01 Cyclone back then. Not one recall while owned. In 25K the only serious issue with that bike was a failed spark plug wire! Serious because it was misdiagnosed as crankshaft failure by the dealer. |
