Not for me...I don't want everyone seeing my oil. That sort of thing should be kept private.

Seriously, what is the check procedure on these? Is the only thing to park it level? Do you have to have it on or off the side stand?

I have no issues with the dipstick.

I stand it up, check the stick, and if there is oil on it I go ride. Surprisingly, I've not burned any oil, even with it being a new engine. Very impressive.

On my 09 1125R, now with almost 1900 miles, I go through about 2 oz's of HD Syn3 20w 50 every 400 miles or so. The cases and the exhaust are dry so I assume it's burning the oil or blowing it out somewhere. How about everyone else?

On my 2008, I've not even lost a whole 2 ounces in the last 15K miles. I lost about an ounce and a half in the first 620 miles, but none since. I'm running Mobil1 since that first service, but not sure that really has anything to do with it.

syn3 is crap IMO. Never worked all that well in my XB so never bothered with it in my 1125R

With 15,500 miles on my 08 1125r I dont burn any between oil changes with redline 20/50.

On the loss of oil; I believe some here have had oil/carbon coat their valves and intake track after overfilling either by them selves or a dealer, when these 1125's first came out due mostly to incorrect checking. It was reported that extra oil would be sucked into the intake track. Since, pretty much resolved by correct checking procedures. See the archives. Bob

sight glass should have been fitted from the first bike to roll off the production line to be honest but is good to see that Buell MOCO have listened to comments from users.

Yup; too bad it doesn't readily retrofit, apparently; and according to my dealer, n/a as a warranty issue, though I've experienced correct oil level issues in the past.

Thanks, tho, for the pic, very helpful.

What oil??? Er, ahh, I mean what oil usage?

Hey it's easier to check my 1125's oil than my ST1300.

Oh gosh...the ST1300 is a pain in the butt as is the Goldwing. You have to remove trim pieces to get to the dipstick. But they don't typically burn oil, so I never checked mine that much.

I check my 1125 frequently since it's a new bike, and new motors typically burn a little oil....but the 1125 has not burned a drop. My Uly will burn a little between changes, maybe a couple of ounces, not much.

Can't be retrofitted as the case is different...see the raised portion in the casting?

Not there on the earlier cases...

No oil consumption here and really no problem with just the stick.

Neat upgrade tho...more proof Buell does listen. mm

I have two other bikes in the garage. my 99' ZRX 1100 Kaw has the sight glass, ok. My 06' Suz M109R has the semi-dry sump like the Buell and the oil check routine is written almost identical. while these two seem a pain in the arse I have had two and a half years to get used to the 109 so the Buell does not bother me and besides these two never seem to burn any oil.

5,500 miles on my 1125, and aside from the dealer doing the first service, the oil hasn't even been checked., lol.

Ok, scratch that - 5,800 miles and I just checked it now. Did the cold check and it was about 2/3 to the full mark.

So question - On my Sportster, you never filled the oil tank up all they way when it was cold because it would always read higher when hot - is this true for the 1125 as well?

I feel like such a risk taker, living so dangerously.

Bad, I'm pretty much the same way. I also don't fret if the oil isn't right to the max point on the dipstick. The amount of oil between min and max is so little that it doesn't even really matter. Even the manual says anything between the marks is safe.

I don't get folks who are so darn anal about oil level. If it isn't below the low mark, why bother? Seriously, 2 oz is probably within the margin of error for checking oil level. Good grief. Two ounces? In my view that's just giving yourself way more heartache than is necessary.

Blake, is it any different from those people who change their oil every two or three thousand miles even though the factory says 6,200 miles is enough?

I'm one of those who feels if the factory says every 6,000 miles, then that's good enough for me. I've got better things on which to spend my hard earned money.

I had a customer a week or so ago that has 80k miles on his Amsoil.
Changes the filter every 5k and sends an oil sample to Amsoil.
They analyze it for 10 bucks and advise on the quality.

So far no change, just add what he loses when he drops the filter.
This is anecdotal, but sounds interesting.
