Chi Since the Ma Duce was our crew served weapon I did find the passage on the use of it on troops. I am am recalling it and don't have it in my stuff any more but it was written in a soldier magazine by a light col. from the JAG corp. It referes to a specific round that was around late WWI and WWII that was Russian/ Soviet that was .50 cal. The Military FMJ hardball round is specificly anti-personnel (very) This is just a military Urban Legend I believe. I am not ragging you just a little pet-peeve of mine. Bye the way you finding any good sattalite pics? |

Thanks Pal. I never saw documentation either. We also trained using the M2 against troops. I remember a specific Tank Gunnery engagement where the gunner had to engage troops with the 240 to the left with the main gun and the commander had to engage light armor and troops to the right with the M2. I specifically remember the order for the TC to really be careful and not cross the M2 over the main gun barrel and shoot off the damn thing. I guess if we train for it then it must be OK??? |

Chi . . .it would be confusing to me if it was OK to drop 105 rounds on personnel, but not Ma Duece rounds . . .. . but, as you are well aware, I have made confusion a permanant state |

Er, scuse me, sorry for the confusion. I'm talking about the M240 coax machine gun which is mounted along side the Main Gun and uses the main gun sights. We never were trained to use the 105 or 120mm Main Gun on troops. Light skinned vehicles but not troops. The main gun might not be all that effective against them. The coax and the M2 definately effective. Definately. |

Who's interested in a planned weekend ride sometime in April? I'm trying to determine general interest now so that options can be discussed at our next chapter meeting (or here). What would you be interested in? Let's here it. My suggestion would be Starved Rock, perhaps including brunch. I could provide route maps that include long/short, fast/slow route options. Please let me know what you'd be interested in, including dates, times, duration, etc. |

Brent, the best western is on I-196 in Grandville(sw suburb of Grand Rapids). Exit 69 or 70 I think. From there, take 196 across town to 96 east , get off at first exit (beltline), go north, this is m-44, follow it north, then west to the Grattan turn-off left. |

Fly, a late April weekend ride to Starved Rock sounds good to me. It would be a good tune up for the Crud Run. Maybe if we asked Itzablast, she would make reservations for us for brunch. |

I'd be happy to make our reservation for Starved Rock brunch, however, my schedule doesn't allow me to go in April. May is better. If everyone prefers April, that's ok, I'll still set it up. I just got my pictures developed from our Starved Rock trip last year. They look good. Let me know what the consensus is. |

Anyone up for riding this sunday? How about meeting at the Highland House at 10am? Some might want to meet earlier but I just can't. It takes too long to get there and it'll be too cold any earlier. So 10am at HH on the 6th? |

Kevin....I won't be able to make a Sunday morning ride (gotta work). I may cruise over to Uke's in the afternoon to hear Erik & the Firebolts. They're playing from 2pm-5pm (I think). |

Kevin, Although I can't commit at this time, a Sunday meet and ride from HH at 10:00am sounds good to me. Will you be riding the BMW or some other bike? |

Brent, I also have been monitoring weather forecast for Grattan. Things don't look too promising. I'm bailing, unless I can find some way (i.e. someone) to haul my bike up there. I'm not interested in riding there/back through bad weather, especially before/after time on the track. Let me know if any last minute "space" becomes available in whatever vehicle you are going to use for hauling your bike up there. I'll ride the track in bad weather, I just don't want to ride the commute trip to/from the track. .....or maybe I could just ride your bike on the track??????? :-) |

Ah, what the hell. I'll probably ride on Saturday afternoon too. Saturday is a bit more trickey for me because I gotta wait around the house for Marshall Fields to deliver a bed frame. You all know how that goes, sometime between 9 and 5 and we'll call you the day before to get you better info. So the best I can do is keep checking this site and post my cell # when I know more. Sunday might be too rainy according to www.weather.com but I'm still up for that too. |

there's always a window of opportunity at Grattan. Don't tell me I'm gonna be the ONLY guy on a Buell again.Get some of those "things-with-wings" to keep your poo poo warm and let's get it on. Worse scenario: cold beer, benchracing, good food in Grand Rapids. Badweather what?????? |

At last nights meeting, the chapter discussed buying some radio communicators to use during club rides. Several members already own Chatterbox units, so they seem like a good choice. See http://www.hjc-chatterbox.com/main_static.html for products. I am curious, however, if Chatterbox users find the channels congested in urban areas, or if around many other riders. Also, what models have people bought and/or do you recommend we buy for the club? Collett Communications is another company that makes these things. See http://www.collettcommunicators.com for products. They are comparable to Chatterbox, but provide many more available channels because of the frequency they run at. What do you think? |
