How many of you wear ear plugs? With the bike and the wind it gets pretty loud on the highway even with my full face helmet on. What do the safety experts say? |

Hearing loss is permanent. The noise from the wind and engine (especially with a non-stock exhaust) is easily over the "safe limit" for prolonged exposure. Ear plugs are cheap insurance against this. I wear them all the time. |

I wear ear plugs every time I ride. If you ever have any ringing sound in your ears after riding, you just lost some of your ability to hear. |

I always wear ear plugs and a full face helmet. I can hear better with ear plugs in. They take away the wind noise, so I can hear my engine, traffic, etc. |

I always wear them and a full face helmet (amongst other gear). I wear 26db plugs from the gun section at Wal-Mart. They cost like $1.00, and work better and are more comfortable that some other sets I have tried at $20! I too can hear better with them in since they reduce the engine and traffic noise. Plus they come with a tether so I just leave them attached to the little tag at the bag of my jacket. My gf and I use BlueAnt Interphone communicators and the work SO much better when we have earplugs in...go figure! |

I buy by the case from these guys: http://www.tasco-safety.com/ear-plugs-hearing-prot ection.html 100 count works out to 22 cents and 500 count works out to about 10 cents each. The only time I don't use ear plugs is on the short ride home after having service performed. |

I either wear ear plugs(Disposable), or I use my Skull Candy ear buds and have my ipod on about 20% volume. |

Anytime I'm going some place that requires freeway travel. I buy'em by the 100 count carton. Not normally close to home/around town. Mike |

Thanks for all the feedback I was thinking it would cut down the traffic noise to the point of it being unsafe, but I guess I was wrong. I'll buy a pack of them today after work. |

I always wear them on the highway. Around town just the helmet. I would watch out those that are listening to music on headphones. If you are in an accident thy would use that as contributory neglegance(sp?). I it was me I would hold it against you. |

Ear plugs improve your "signal to noise" ratio. They remove wind noise so that other sounds are actually clearer. WARNING: They are illegal in some municipalities, but I'd rather risk a ticket than my hearing. And you have to wonder WHY they're illegal... they allow the deaf to drive, right? |

+10 on ear plugs. Been wearing them for years. Note - keep your ear plugs either new or frequently clean. It's very easy to get a recurring ear infection with ear plugs. My favorite are the push in, plastic style, not the roll up foam style. Easy to clean, re-usable and you can put neosporin on them to keep the bacteria levels down. |

I'm partial to the foam type and have a couple with fancy flame designs on them. Trouble is they are now dirty and I'm afraid to clean them because they'll lose the slow expandablilty feature that allows them to be easily inserted into the ear. So my question is can the foam type be treated with some 'secret' ingredient that will restore the slow expandablilty after cleaning? |

Sparky: Don't clean them with soap and water... clean them with rubbing alcohol instead. Or just pony up the cash to buy another couple hundred. It's not like they're expensive! |

I always wear my earplugs and prefer the disposable kind. Moldex Pura-Fit 6800. Should be around $22 for 200 pair. |

I would highly recomend getting custom earplugs. I think I paid 50 or 60 for mine and they are more comfy, and stay put. |

i suggest surefire sonic defenders ear plugs. i know they make flash lights too. but i am in the army and deployed 4 times i wore them every time and on the bike. they are about 10 to 12 bucks per pair and they are made for combat and comfort. they allow ambient noise and loud noise stays out. i get them at any military store like ranger joes or try this link. combat proven motorcycle approved http://www.surefire.com/HearingProtectionEnhanceme nt |
