I have installed and did a shake down cruise on my Uly with a new set of Lyndall Gold pads from American Sport Cycle. Al was right about these pads. For general usage, they have a better modulation and feel as compare to the stock pads. I was test riding on super-slab, twisty 2 lanes, outback one lanes, and dirt roads. Much better feel and control. While the wheel was off, I sanded the rotor to remove the stock pads deposits. The constant surging was a real nuisance. The "golds" do not have the same powerful grab as the stock pads but a little more pressure on the lever brings about the stopping power.. The golds translate into a better overall feel of drivability. The pulsing and surging are also gone. 5 stars from me. If you have a pulsing rotor issue, call Al, sand the rotors, and try the golds |

No need to even clean the rotors; the Lyndall Golds will do that for you. |

This is merely my experience, but my first rotor, w/ stock pads, went about 7500 miles before it needed replacement due to pulsing. My second rotor, w/ lyndalls, was pulsing badly 3000 miles after that. I am on my third rotor, back to stock pads(i prefer the feel), and have my fingers crossed. i know lyndalls have worked great for most, but not for all. Good luck. |

Somewhere someone posted an article from a seemingly knowledgeble brake expert. The advice was that one should only use GARNET 200# grit sand paper on the rotors. The Aluminum oxide (and others?) leave an imbedded deposit that will negate all your hard work to smooth out the stops. |

I just wiped my rotor clean with brake cleaner(don't get it on the powder coat), and went with the recommended burn'em in break in method. Still going strong 22,000 miles later. The pulsing was real bad on mine with the originals. |

Etennuly - did you replace with stock pads or Lyndall's ? |

Lyndall's burn them in until the rotors are glowing and the pads are smoking, pads. |

Holy Criminy! Done it once or twice...but never on purpose. New 'adventure' for me & the Uly. thanks, j |

Here's another for whom Lyndall pads did not work. Oh, well. Now thinking wave rotor, and ??? pads? Yes, I did bed them in as instructed. No need to rehash. --Doc |

I also switched to the Lyndall's in the hopes of alleviating the pulsing. At first it seemed a little better but the pulse is back as bad as ever now (3k miles). It actually seems like there is a slippery spot on the rotor. When i pull up to a stop slowly, everything is fine until a certain part of the rotor comes around and then the pads "slip" past it causing the front end to lift. This results in very herky jerky stops. At higher speeds you can feel the pulse mostly in the footpegs interestingly enough. I plan on taking it to the dealer and seeing what they say about warranty replacement of the rotor. Also thinking of the wave rotor and the ZTL2 calipers. I think the front brakes could be a little stronger overall. I did sand the rotors before the Lyndalls were installed but don't know if I used the magic sandpaper, probably not. May be worth another try. |

I also know of one that was not helped by the Lyndall's. It seems to have one area that it grips harder regardless of cleaning or break in. I think it may be a harder spot in the rotor's metal that kept it from wearing evenly. |

I bought the Lyndall's and a new rotor, mine's pulsing again now 6000 miles later. ZTL's an engineering marvel that leaves much to be desired in reality. |

My switch to Lyndall's did not solve the moderate pulsing, either. I am also not as huge a fan of the feel as others on the site are. Seem to have lost too much bite. Anyway, I went out and found the Garnet paper (ACE hardware in our town had it, Lowe's and Home Depot did not). Used it on the rotor and pads. I will not be able to burn in the pads/rotor again until next week and see if this works. I checked on the StopTech (the ones talking about Garnet paper and how rare warped rotors are) credentials with some car racing co-workers, and they seem to be well regarded in car racing circles. This also caused me to research Lyndall (I just went with the good word on BadWeb when I bought them), and I was NOT impressed with their website. Exagerrated claims: zero brake in required, zero brake dust, and some misleading (to me) info on pad compounds makes me think I will go more mainstream next time with EBC or other big name maker. |

+1 to what Arcticktm said, especially the brake dust bit. My front wheel was COATED with dust after just a few hundred miles with the lyndalls. |

I'm not an aggressive rider, usually - and I have found that if I heat the brakes up quite a bit when I first start out for the day, there is less pulsing from there on. Also, every other time out, when I get back i clean my rotor with S100 polishing soap. For me, going from stock to Al's Lyndall's did not eliminate the pulsing (as i had expected), but seemed to have lessened it, somewhat, and with my above routine, it seems to work out well enough. . |

Someone mentioned a few weeks back that they religiously clean the rotor mounting bolts so the rotor does not bind as the brakes are applied and that cured his brake pulsing. I have not tried it yet...but it is on my list. Also I have used EBC pads on all my other bikes. Will probably install a set when needed on the Uly. |

I've used EBC HH pads on the Uly for about 7k miles now and they work great. I have no build-up on the rotors like I did with the stock pads, good feel and good stopping. I've also used EBCs on my Beemer for many miles with great results and that's why I put them on the Uly too. |

I'm on my 2nd set of EBC's and I really like them. |

I don't get it. I must not ride hard enough, or brake late enough (and as un-gentle as I am, I find that hard to believe)...but at 7500+ on stock rotor and pads - on a bike that NEVER gets washed - I don't have any pulsing at all. |

What's the part# for the EBC front pads? I think I might like to try them. Thanks |

I used these part numbers but please verify that they are still current and the best to use. Front FA345HH Rear FA140HH |

The 345# sounds familiar, and I don't use the rear enough under motion to have changed them ! |

Stock pads. Brakes have always worked great. I wash mine and chuck regular stoppies though. |
