thanks guys, to answer your questions the tail piece is the same paint thats on the tank cover and fender, i know it might need to be powdercoated but we will see if it lasts, if the paint comes off im only out a tiny bit of paint. the exhaust is just a spray can of high temp paint, hopefully this winter i can get it ceramic coated. Yep the supertrapp is on it and i love it. the FW elbow is just painted in the same paint as the rest of the bike, it was just polished aluminum so i used 400 grit sandpaper and a scotch brite to make sure it was scuffed up enough and then the paint went right on. After the primer of course. | ||

Scott, What did ya do to prep the tail section. I too want to PC it but for now I'll paint. I also want to paint to see if I want it flat black or gloss, and paints alot cheaper. So hows the paint holding up on the exhaust and the tail. Its been a bit since ya painted hopefully it's holding up to your expectations. Thanks Jon, | ||

"paints alot cheaper." You are mis-informed. Would probably cost about $20 to have it powder coated...you'll spend that much on primer, sealing primer, color and clear coat in spray cans. | ||

hello, for the tail section i wet sanded the bare aluminum with 220 i cleaned all that up and then used a scotch brite pad on it just to make sure it was all scuffed up. for primer i just used gray automotive spray can primer. The paint was just a single stage black automotive paint that i sprayed on. So far its holding up really well. Ive ran my shoe over it several times on accident when getting on and off and it hasnt scratched or chipped the paint. for the exhaust I cleaned up the header really well and then scuffed it with a scotch brite pad and then used a 10 dollar can of high temp paint that i found at autozone. it is also holding up really well. I think Painting the tail is a cheaper option if you already are buying the supplies for the rest of the bike. It also meant I didnt have to wait on the powder coaters schedule. sure PC might be more durable but with all the things ive painted in my life which is a wide array of random junk from RC cars to fridges to mopeds to bikes. If you do the prep work correctly your end result will be pretty durable, powder coat can and will scratch also so its not the be all end all. Although I do want my tail powder coated anyway I really just wanted some more practice with a paint gun and i had the product and I didnt want to wait for the coater to get around to it. | ||

Andy, You are correct seeing as I can prep it to the best of my ability, cause I'm not sure what the coater needs as far as preping. Then drop it off with him. I also have most all the paint I need already from prior project of all sorts. Do you know all of what needs to be done as far as prep work that could save me labor and money concerning the coater? I appreciate the Help! | ||

sorry for the delay in response! if it is currently powder coated, a good coater can actually coat right over it. if it is chipped up, or painted then it needs to be stripped. sandblasting is the way to go there. my PC guy used to own the sandblast shop next door to him, so I usually don't bother sandblasting things myself (even tho I do have a small blaster). here's a list of parts I just dropped of to have blasted and PC'd: XB seat rails XB chopped cheesegrater XB oil cooler mount/engine brace XB pass peg brackets 2 sets of XB heel guards XB headlight brackets I think there was more in there, but I can't remember  I had him sandblast it all and there are 3 different colors being used- it will cost a total of $150. | ||
