Dana, Probably not. My truck is in the shop getting an exhaust leak fixed. I'd consider riding the bike but it will be cold going after dark.

I swore I wouldn't make any more suggestions, but has anybody tried to get in touch with Dave Despain? I've had dealings with him in the past, and I've found him to be enthusiastic and helpful. This sounds exactly like something he'd put on Bike Week. If you let him know that this is a grass roots event, he'll probably be intrigued. I have his old phone number at Dirt Track Promotions, but I think it's changed since the last time I used it. I bet AMA pro racing would have his current phone number, or would have some way of getting in touch with him.

Don't you think that the factory should play a hand in getting publicity? Local TV isn't going to do a whole lot for the public image of Buell. A magazine article or something on a national level would be cool. I would think the factory would have connections of who to talk to. If anyone was interested in publicity, I would think they should be. They are the ones that get paid if Buell becomes more popular.

OH MY GOD!!! Koz actually broke the secret Buell hypnosis which was applied to him. Koz, why actually promote your bike if you can have loyal David Koresh followers preach the bikes to everyone? Its great the folks like them, but to go overboard in an attempt to show others..whomever that might be...the level of your fanatacism & never receive a nickel for your time or hassles is ridiculous. I like Ford trucks, but you wont see me going out of my way attempting the Ford fat cats to make more $$$ to line their pockets with.

Harley/Buell has more $$$ than GOD & they know all about Buells 20th. If they wanted to promote it, they would. With 1 simple phone call they could have every damn tv network east of the mississippi river in East Troy if they so desired.

This whole deal was supposed to be a nice simple get together for some Buell fans. Meet at Hals, ride to factory & present Erik with a card, ride some nice roads & have a great supper later on. Instead you have some folks who have this strange desire for some type of fame or thoughts of accolades being heaped upon them for thrusting the Buell name into the so called limelight. The whole point of the 20th is being lost somewhere in the quagmire here.

I may not agree with the way he said it, but I agree with the point Greg is making.

This is not my deal. In fact I have purposefully avoided reading the goings on here since this all got started. But it was all started in order for everyone to sign a card and for a few to meet up in E. Troy for an informal celebration of Erik's twenty year anniversary.

What's going on now? I asked for a summary and got this extensive list of stuff via email... but no instructions on how I could get my name on the card. I'm a little bewildered. Guess I should have paid attention. One of the moderators apparently felt it was necessary to delete all the archives. Might have been interesting reading. Oh well. ohwell

Blake,
What are you talking about? I clicked on two of the archives above and they're still full of stuff. This link should get you to the Spidey-post, or at least a fairly recent one. Got my butt bunched up and chewed on for asking once about current status and basically told where not to be in this process, but I can be a bit ornery at times so I snuck back in when they had their backs turned. ;)

Anyway, my take on things, from a purely non-organizer non-official spectator/participant point of view:

1. This still is a simple little get together for people to put their name on a card and have it presented to Erik on the appointed 20th anniversary day of the 750.

2. This is still simply a ride from Hal's to East Troy for those who want it to be that.

3. Some are doing this and want to avoid anything to do with the H-D 100th Anniversary stuff the following week, and to make this more of an "event" for those peoples more stuff has been added.

4. Some want this to be more than a simple event and for those people more stuff has been added, including a "Friday afternoon" BattleTrax event. (The only other Friday scheduled BattleTrax I know of was the one put on for the Japanese people at the Pilgrim road plant a few years ago, but there may have been others.)

5. Some feel this should be a replacement for the Buell Homecoming, especially since the concept of a Buell Homecoming seems to have been flushed, first by the focus on the 100th Anniversary from last year's terminations of some events, and second by the apparent dearth of information of anything Buell-related in any of the H-D 100th Anniversary publications, and third by the lack of any concrete or preliminary info on Buell.com .

6. Some people who are planning on attending the H-D 100th Anniversary party stuff just wanted to get in a week earlier, for preferred parking maybe, and they are also in the consideration for expanding events.

7. Some people just want an excuse to ride with Charlotte on her planned Great Lakes Adventure on Sportbikes "GLASS", which I believe started off as a local ride instead of doing the Super-SPLASH ride due to scheduling conflicts, and expanded due to Newfie's "Canadian Buell Owners Ride to the 20th Aniversary" CBORTT20A? CBORT?, and also expanded in consideration of the Michigan contingent's riding over around or across Lake Michigan. (I've lost my train of thought, oh no a mental derailment, where was I now ... preview/post map-read)

Okay, just hit a little gravel there and messed up someone's front yard. I'll go back later and sprinkle a little grass seed and fertilizer and all will be well. Anyway, yes, this is still a simple event/activity. Or it can be more, or less, as desired by each individual participant.

Oh, #8. There's also apparently something going on about a poster, cost of or availability of are also covered somewhere in another thread or buried in the archives. You're right though, this may become more than what was originally thought of seeings as how it now has at least 3 or 4 or 5 or 6 separate threads leading into or out of it. It may also be unique in that there are riders coming/riding in from California and from NewFoundland, possibly making it one of the widest ridden-to events for Buell. (I said "one of" as a qualifier to I don't get jumped on.)

There, and seeings as how I've taken so long to pound type this in, you've probaby already had 13 other replies with about 10% of the verbage I've used. But hey, I've got all these letters on the keyboard and I heard if you don't use them you loose them and if I don't have any computer keys I won't be able to do my job here and then I won't be able to afford any more toys or gas or other stuff. ;)

Gotta go, assuming anyone is still awake after reading all that dribble.

Well said Mike I didn't think that was dribble at all.I feel the same as far as how everyone will look at this event and what it could turn out to be in the future.

Sounds good. What's all the talk about television coverage. As to the archives... they only go back to January; didn't this topic get started mid last year sometime?

I'll go ahead and post the contents of BadS1's email in the page header. He did a good job of summarizing the whole deal. I still don't know how to get my signature on "the card" though. ohwell

Quote:

All BRAG chapters or private chapters such as American Thunder Bike can use 11x17 inch sheets of paper, make sure it is a high grade thick paper. You can put the club name or chapter name at the top and have all the members sign it. For people who do not belong to a chapter you can send me a autographed piece of paper and pictures are more than welcome, this goes for clubs also. These will be due by May 10th 2003. There will be a ride meeting just out side of East Troy at Hal’s. If you plan on attending this ride let me know when you send in your signature(s). Please mail these signatures to:
Tony Barchock
5415 Cherokee
Dearborn Hts, Mi
48125
or
Tony Barchock
American Harley-Davidson and Buell
5436 Jackson Rd
Ann Arbor, Mi

Sorta buried in the text there. Basically send in either a large group signed card, or send in a postcard of sorts. I don't know why 11x17 was chosen, that would stick way out of my bookshelves at home, maybe Erik will frame it. ;)

Don't forget the card info was also posted in Fuell. There will also be a "feature" article in the upcoming Fuell with all the event specs.

As for this being a "simple" event....
1) Yes, this has grown to become more than just a simple card for Erik.

2) Yes, this is becoming a grass roots Homecoming event. It seems that BRAG has forgotten about hosting fun/reasonable events for it's members. I'd personally love to attend one of the BRAG adventure tours. The main reason I'm not is that I feel they're poorly organized. You spend a week criss-crossing the countryside to end in a different location than where you started. This just isn't logistically sound thinking.

3) To entice more people to attend, we added the Thursday dinner and Friday BattleTrax. Would you drive halfway across the country for a 2 hour event? I wouldn't. I would travel for a 1/2 week of hanging with my fellow Buell owners. It appears that train of thought will be successful. We've had responses from Cali, Mass, KC, New Foundland, Minnesota, Colorado, Iowa, Michigan, Missouri, Illinois, etc.

4) The idea of the poster arose from the cool Team Elves posters at the Uke's event. It's just something to give away to people.

5) I've asked a number of times to get the schedule information posted at the top of this thread. Still no luck in getting that done.

I hope that helps answer any questions that Mike didn't.

The Cook in the Kitchen,

Dennis
