Does anybody have any advice or comments on converting a xb9r to a xb12r? |

try talking the dealer down to a good price when you trade the 9r in for the 12......lol |

Yeah I would agree. The conversion will cost you more than selling your bike and buying a 12. I know people get attached to their rides though. |

If you do the work yourself, its not bad. Tear the engine apart, swap the pistons, rods, and a few other pieces, adjust the ECM, and your good to go. Not much separates the 9 and a 12. It isn't worth it in my opinion, but if you are going to tear it apart, go with aftermarket parts, something like a 1250 kit. |

Thanks Froggy that's kinda what I was looking for. I bought the xb9r with a knocking in the motor a month ago for $1,700. I worked at a Harley dealer until Friday when I got let go but I had already order all my parts, with my discount. All in all, I should have a xb12r motor in a 04' xb9r frame for $2,800. |

If you can get the complete engine for that cheap it's a good deal. Just remember the primary gearing and transmission gearing are different, |

Transmission gearing is the same, but primary gearing on XB9's is shorter. It doesn't need to be changed, in fact many desire the 9 gearing on their 12's. |

You need a whole '12 crankshaft to do it the "easy" way... |

Cool thanks everybody for your input. I didn't even know that the primary gearing is different. |

Just get an 1125R unless you're doing a big bore kit. |

Where you going to find a 1125R for $1700 that needs only a little bit of motor work? |

First off, as much as I love the 1125R it's not the bike for me. I love the sound of the XB motor. I was asked to be the Buell salesman for a Harley Davidson dealer. I didn't even own a buell, I had an tricked out XL883R. I said yes, sold my 883R and started promoting buell and looking for one to buy. Then I found the xb9r for $1,700 just after I payed the $1,100 bill for my parts I got let go. I'm waiting on the right side crank bearing to assembly everything. I got the 12r crank, pistons, and ecm, I also got all new bearings lifters and a complete gasket kit. |
