The voltage regulator is mounted onto a large area surface in order to dissipate heat effectively. In between the regulator and the surface is a thick layer of thermal grease / heat paste. Do you guys have a part number for it or where do i get stuff like that? | ||

Electronics hobby story will have it, also a computer parts store is likely to, since they use the same stuff between CPUs and the heatsink. | ||

CPU stuff might be overkill. And it will be expensive. My favorite online retailer sells a 3.5g tube of it for $7. Not sure how much you'd need for the regulator. I'd definitely check the auto parts store. | ||

Make sure you have at LEAST as much thermal mass for the heatsink as the OEM. Make sure both faces are as perfectly flat as possible. Polish them if possible. Best heat transfer is conductive, metal to metal. Heatsink compound has much less capability and is supposed to fill the tiniest voids possible. Arctic Silver III is the last stuff I used. Zack | ||

Arctic Silver is good stuff. Probably the best you can get. That's what I use on my computers. |
