For me there are only two really good looking intakes. The Force and the Bartel's CF intake. I had one of the Bartel's CF intakes on my '00 M2. The fine folks at American Sport Bike sell them.

It is perfectly clean, no exposed fasteners (uses Velcro to hold cosmetic CF cover in place).

The Force is the best choice for maximum knee room and has more of a bad ass knuckle dragger hot rod look.

Guys:

Be cautious of an ebay seller Wood199, (Fred Perkins, Helmet, CA) he tried to charge $14.00 dollars to ship a rear wheel spacer and two rear axle adjsuters, to NC by UPS Ground

When asked to recalculate shipping, he stated that he was "too busy" to ship USPS for $3.75, and that all he would do was ship UPS for $14.00

Buyer Beware

Airtech also has a sweet aircleaner that seems to always be overlooked...it's similar to the Bartel's but is fiberglass (much less $$), uses a big foam filter and has a frontal air inlet.

To repeat what slaughter said tho, while the Force does look cool if you should lowside on it major damage can occur simply due to the design of that air cleaner. I have first hand knowledge of this. I would tend to prefer something that would "slide" instead of digging in.

Ray: "Aesquire: Car guys just don't get it do they. My bike is faster than your car! Sorry dude, that's just the way it is. Bye. Zoooom."

At a stop light Saturday, I was admiring a '68 Vette next to me and chatting with the driver. He said his Vette was fast but "not as quick as your bike...."

Oh that's right, I'm not on the Blast anymore. :]

Had some kid on a Dyna think that his was pretty fast from a light. I let him get a little lead and then lit it up. I went by him a whole lot faster than he probably expected.
Maybe now he knows that a Buell isn't just another Harley.

Little help from the FI savy?

2001 X1 Race ECM, Pipe and Air cleaner

New plugs and 02 Sensor

Runs good to about 5000 in 5th gear then loads up and almost dies.

It will eventually clean out and run well up to 5000 in 5th, and loads up again.

Any ideas where to start looking?

Has just started to do this. No issues from new ith the FI.

Thanks

Some of you who have been into Buells from the beginning may remember the Frontier Services air cleaner that Roger Roeszler produced. To me, that was, and still is, the best unit made. He no longer makes them. I heard that HD hired him. Good rain protection, great air flow, and better looking than the Buell race cleaner. I plan on posting one in the parts for sale section soon.

Chuck - Look at the top of the KV wheel section. I hope, for your sake, that you don't have marchesini wheels. If you do you should ask about Loctite 660 while at the bearing shop

Honda is running two-page ads featuring Miguel Duhamel on a CBR600RR. The ad touts all sorts technological innovations for the bike that are directly derived from Honda's racing program, including..... mass centralization. Mass centralization with the bike's exhaust can is under the seat, well aft and above the bike's CG. Bad ad. (I do venerate Miguel, though.)

V2win...Do you have more info on that air cleaner? Roger is a member of my local BRAG chapter. I never knew he produced an air cleaner for the Buell.

And you are correct...he does work for H-D now.

I posted a thread over on the Quick Board titled "Say Thanks to a Serviceman . . . . . "

it's got a website where you can sign (name and town and state only) a thank you card for service men and women everywhere . . ..

regardless of your feelings about the government's policies, these people are not the policy makers, but, rather, the instruments of that policy's inforcment. . . . they do it for you and for me, every day . . ..

seems they might like to get some news other than the number of protestors attending rallies

As a fellow Badweatherbiker, an American, and a soldier in the Pennsylvania National Guard, I would like to thank you guys for supporting our troops. Some of us have loved ones, relatives, neighbors from down the street, or the guy we casually waved to when getting gas at the gas station who serve in our armed services. I performed a six month tour of duty with the Guard here on homeland defense, and am currently training to become a rapid deployment unit. My unit does not want to have any of us leave to active duty, as I have investigated and tested, incase we get activated or have an emergency. Most of my friends are over there, some of my relatives, so when you hear of a soldier getting hit, or whose life gets taken away, please say a prayer for their family, and their safety. Thanks gentlemen, take care and God bless. Peace. Brian

UNITED NATIONS—Responding to pressure from the international community, the U.N. ordered enigmatic candy maker William "Willy" Wonka to submit to chocolate-factory inspections Monday.

"For years, Wonka has hidden the ominous doings of his research and development facility from the outside world," U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan said. "Given the reports of child disappearances, technological advances in glass-elevator transport, and Wonka-run Oompa-Loompa forced-labor camps, the time has come to put an end to three decades of secrecy in the Wonka Empire."

The chocolate-making capabilities of Wonka's heavily fortified compound have long been a source of speculation. Wonka, defying international calls for full disclosure, has maintained his silence regarding his factory's suspected capacity to manufacture confections of mass deliciousness.

Secretary of State Colin Powell praised the U.N. announcement.

"No more will this sinister figure be free to pursue his nefarious endeavors without fear of reprisal, protected by loopholes in international candy-making law," Powell said. "With this ruling, the U.N. has issued the global community a 'golden ticket' to draw back the curtain behind which this mysterious confectioner hides."

According to CIA psychological profilers, Wonka has retreated from the outside world entirely, withdrawing into "a world of pure imagination." An anonymous tinker stationed near the infamous, long-locked Wonka factory gate corroborated the claim, saying, "Nobody ever goes in, nobody ever comes out."

Rival candy makers, long worried that Wonka's advanced capabilities have created an imbalance of power within the volatile global chocolate marketplace, also applauded the U.N. move.

"Wonka exerts a powerful psychological grip over the world's children," said Arthur Slugworth, president of Slugworth Confections. "They are devoted to him with a loyalty that borders on the fanatical, eagerly lapping up Scrumdiddlyumptious Bars by the millions at his command. But when we found evidence that Wonka was developing so-called 'everlasting gobstopper' technology—'the mother of all gobstoppers'—we knew it was time to act."

To date, all efforts to peer inside the Wonka inner sanctum have met with failure. Armies of legal experts retained by Wonka have kept visitors to his chocolate-making facilities effectively gagged with elaborate non-disclosure agreements. His in-house staff of high-contrast Technicolor dwarves carefully monitors what information flows in or out of the heavily guarded compound. And the few scraps of information that have come to light—vague reports of terrifying river-barge rides, razor-sharp ceiling fans, and human-sized pneumatic tubes of indeterminate purpose—have been obscured by layers of darkly comic, psychedelic symbolism, making them virtually impossible to interpret.

"Wonka has shown himself to be a man who cannot be trusted," Annan said. "Whether misrepresenting himself as a limping cripple, only to drop at the last moment into an agile somersault, or exploiting the deepest and most personal character flaws of misbehaving children, Wonka has been a man of shifty, undetermined motives and baffling ends. He must be stopped."

Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, a longtime advocate of regime change in the Wonka Empire, is urging President Bush to consider military intervention should Wonka refuse to cooperate.

"The world can no longer turn a blind eye to Wonka's deception and misdirection," Rumsfeld said. "Without full inspections, there's no earthly way of knowing which direction Wonka's going. Not a speck of light is showing, so the danger must be growing. And he's certainly not showing any signs that he is slowing. Are the fires of Hell a-glowing? Is the grisly reaper mowing? Who can provide the world with the answer to these pressing questions?"

"The candy man can," Rumsfeld added grimly.

Bush said he is leaning toward the use of force, undeterred by the prospect of the candy maker using his rumored "Wonkavision" technology to turn would-be attackers into millions of tiny pieces, beaming them through the air and shrinking them to tiny, dollhouse-accessory size.

"We are talking about a man who is able to take a rainbow and cover it with dew," Bush told reporters during a press conference Monday. "Who knows what else he is capable of? Left to his own devices, he could, in a worst-case scenario, make the world taste very bad, indeed..

Virus Alert:

From http://www.drudgereport.com...

Quote:

PC users warned of Iraq war-inspired viruses
Wed Mar 26 2003 00:01:21 ET

Singapore (dpa) - PC users were warned on Wednesday to be careful responding to online polls asking them to vote for or against the U.S.-led war on Iraq that could be a hook to launch a new virus.

``A clever virus-writer may disguise a virus file as an application to vote on the Iraq war, and with all the interest, there is a high chance that people will click on it,'' said Charles Cousins, managing director for Asia of Sophos, an anti-virus vendor.

The Ganda worm will try to entice users to open it by claiming to contain pictures of Iraq taken by U.S. spy satellites, and screensavers mocking U.S. President George Bush, Cousins told the Computer Times.

Wars increase hacking fever, said Allan Bell, Network Associates' marketing director for the Asia-Pacific region.

``Iraq and other less developed countries also have highly skilled programmers capable of creating complex viruses,'' he was quoted as saying.

``Successful models'' like the Yaha, an e-mail virus used by Indian virus-writers to attack Pakistani wabsites, will be copied, Bell predicted.

There have been a lot more politically-motivated viruses and hacking attacks over the last few years, Cousins observed. ``These are likely to continue,'' he said. ``Unfortunately, some of them will be fought using the computers of innocent computer users.''

An ``injustice worm'' on the Israeli-Palestine clashes sends a protest e-mail using the address of infected users to Israeli politicians, the report said.

Two weeks ago an Indian virus-writing group launched a new variant of Yaha that can take control of a computer, using it to send spam to Pakistani websites in the hopes of bringing them down, it added.
