Does anyone have the part number for the XB12XP light bar? I was thinking of mounting some Piaa 510's to it. I did some searching but no luck. I just picked up my 09 XB12X, and said goodbye to my 08 XT. I believe my X needs some upgrades don't you? |

I think that the police set up is all one kit that can't be broken up. People have been talking about that since they have first been released. I haven't heard of anyone actually getting one by itself yet. |

The XP light bar would be a poor choice for the PIAA lights . . .but to each their own . . the part number is Y1012.1AU, Mount, Main, front light. (Part #10 in the exploded diagram below) I've bought nearly all the parts in the kit independently from decals to switches . . .nothing secret, nothing unusual a, frankly, nothing that's of much use unless you are a cop. The Buell bar is too close, high, narrow and flimsy to mount the PIAA lights. |

The main downside to the Police brackets is that the pivot is vertical not horizontal. You'd still have to fabricate an additional pivot mount so that you can pivot the lights for up and down adjustment. Thought of using them myself until I saw how they are constructed. |

That Palmer is an exact copy of the DNE or whatever it was we all bought a year of so ago . . . works elegantly. |

I will let you know soon. I ordered one and it has shipped. Probably be here next week some time, but I wont have time to mess with it much until next weekend. I was thinking about mounting trailtech lights on it, but I will evaluate that when I get it, see how it mounts and see what will really fit on it. |

Or you could take my way out...I put 1125CR mirrors on my X, and mounted Hella lights to the old turn signal mount points (no drilling). I still have vertical pivoting...sorta...I can rotate the light up and down where it mounts to the bike, and side to side where it mounts to its mount. AND, I've got mega-visible turn signals now |

I'll have to get one or two good shots...all I have is from the light install, they don't show the mirrors very well. |

Ratbuell, Pics would be sweet! Do you have a install write up on the the CR Mirrors? Court - Thanks for the heads up on the bracket. Your explanation makes a lot of sense and saved me some cash. |

Mirrors were easy: Remove lollipop mirrors from switch housings. Install CR mirrors (with the mounting bolts that are used on the CR) to the same place. Lengthen wires about 4" - I made pigtails with butt connectors like the factory and plugged them into place. Plug in to factory turn signal harness. Note: see above regarding LED lighting. If they don't light up, switch the + and - wires, your polarity is wrong. The CR mirror has polarized connectors (one M, one F); the bike does not since incandescent lights don't "care" about polarity. Another reason I made pigtails - one needed a gender change between the light and the bike. The offset base is rotated a bit from stock because of the handguards...but the mirror rotates on the base anyway. I just don't have them in the detent notch anymore, but they stay put just fine even at ...uh... "extralegal" speeds. |

I'd like to see the lights on the XP's handguards converted into turn signals. Thus freeing up old signal holes for light mounting |

Whelen makes amber TIR-3 lightheads. They come preprogrammed with either 15 scanlock patterns; 10 scanlock patterns; or steady-on (which is what you'd want for a flasher-based turn signal application). All you need are the bezels from Buell. You can drill 3 holes in your own handguards (2 mount screws, one wiring hole). That was actually my first thought...but then the CR mirrors fell in my lap so I went that route instead. |

Crackberry pic, sorry if the resolution isn't the best....
The lights are Hella Optilux lights from autoanything.com, I think they were all of $55 (wiring and relay included) and have a white LED cateye ring that I have hooked to the old low beam wire so they go off when the main beams come on. Main beams are triggered by high beam; with the high beam mod (wire swap), I go from one light with cateyes on lo, to four lights on hi. They're mounted to the old turn signal holes. And no...the cateye rings aren't bright enough to be turn signals. They're just extra visibility / "what's that?" effect at night. (Message edited by ratbuell on September 13, 2009) |

Here's the trial mounting of the Optronix lights on the XP light mount. Had to bolt a strip of 1/8" aluminum bar stock that I painted gloss black to match the mount across the bottom ledge. One problem with the XP rack is that it's angled downward on the top a bit which precludes sticking a decent sized light on the bottom ledge. I also wanted to get a bit of separation from the headlights. From what I've been able to gather from the PIAA lights is that they need to be mounted flat at the bottom to accommodate water drainage, so you aren't supposed to side mount them. There are a few other options for mounting different kinds of lights on the XP rack and the Optronix from Wallymart at $15.00 are a cheap base to experiment with. You can even get this style of light with an adhesive backing to stick on the side mounting portion of the XP rack.

Well, at least someone can use the mirrors that come on the 1125CR; Uly riders!

That XP bar presents an awful lot of frontal area. I'd be interested to see if you get any buffeting. |

I'm experimenting with some aluminum bar stock from Loews's. I hope to have it installed tonight and will post pics if it's not mickey mouse. I am trying to rig this up for under $40. So far so good. |

Yeah . . DME was the one I bought . . . it looked identical to the one that Palmer is selling . . I think perhaps Palmer took over that idea when DME stopped. It works well. |

I haven't had any buffeting issues. Have been riding with it on without lights for a couple of weeks. |

I got my light mount in the mail yesterday and I took it out to the bike real quick to see how to mount it. Not sure how the thing is suppose to fit on the Uly. I will look at it closer this weekend, but it came with no hardware on no instructions. I am sure I can figure out some way to put it on the bike. The I just have to figure out what lights I want to mount on it. |

You will need a longer bolt (about 3/4") that will replace the current headlamp aiming set bolt to mount the top part into the headlamp and two 3/4" long bolts that fit into the threaded holes in the tree. Think they're 1/4 x 20. Be very careful not to get them cross threaded as the top piece angles down and makes it a bit difficult to tighten them. DAMHIK. |

Thanks for the info Itileman. I will look at it tomorrow. I think I am going to go with the Optronix lights for now too. |

I finally got the Lowes lightbar on there It took me longer than I thought it would but they look pretty good and I took it for a spin around the block. I'll snap some pics of it at work tomorrow. I wired them to turn on with a relay when the high beam is on. I also put a small waterproof switch in series with the relay's coil just in case i want a normal high beam. I installed a kuryakin voltmeter too. The bike doesn't seem to mind the extra current I was afraid that I would have to install 35 watt bulbs. |

Ok. I think I am an idiot. Looks to me that the police light bracket will not fit on the X, but will the XT because the front fender is lower. Not sure what to do now. |

Umm the XP is based off the X, not the XT, and uses the X fender. Not sure what your snag with installing it is. |

Take the upper fender off a UlyX. Install the bracket on the forks, and the fender inside the bracket, using the same 2 screws that were holding the fender on. |

I took it all apart and tried it. Looks to me that the X fender needs some mods, as in trimming, to fit right. I can make it fit. The fender doesnt fit in the bracket right and the holes wont line up with out some forcing. If I trim the sides at the bottom it looks like I can make it fit ok. Thanks |

Hm. Who knew? The beak for an X is a different part number than the beak for an XP. Neat Sorry 'bout my post above, if it seemed a little short... edited for clarification (Message edited by ratbuell on September 19, 2009) |

I had a beak on my XT, but had to take it off to install the light bracket. It went to a good home. |

It will get trimmed up and it will fit. I am going to take the bracket to my local welder and see if I can have some stainless brackets made to bolt to the side of it to actually mount lights on. Its actually working out better than I had hoped. |
