So I was looking around for an exhaust ... I found I liked the stock based Spec OPS and Drummer the best, and the dyno reports from American Sport Bike showed they would give me the boost as well. I liked the idea of the center oval outlet option from Spec OPS ...  but wanted something more ... Odie has a note on his site that he will do custom work, so I thought I would try it. I sent him this chrome 2.5" X 3.5" oval tip ...  ... and asked if he could keep the rounded rear of the pipe (instead of the normal flat piece) and have my tip come out the center. After a bunch of emails (Odie, as most folks already know, is ALL about customer satisfaction), here's what we came up with:  I skipped dinner to mount it, and at 9pm - fired it up for the first time. Amazing!   It woke up my neighbor (GSX-R 600 rider who may end up suffering tonal inadequacy issues) who came over to listen ... later, I found my dogs hiding under the sofa, and there's still an APB/BOLO out for the cat. I can't say enough about Odie. Wonderful to work with, great craftsmanship (tolerances around the tip are less than 1/32nd inch, and welds are on the inside to make it look clean), and above all - he takes the time to ensure the customer gets exactly what they want - no questions asked. AWESOME! Should improve the warmup time on your rear tire too! After you get a few miles on it, you'll have to let us know if you notice any effect on the rear tire...does it get greasy, seam to wear faster etc... | ||

Mnb - I just took it for a romp, and checked the tire after I was done ... no extra goop from the exhaust. Talking with Odie when we were planning it, we decided by shortening the overall length of the pipe and how much tip hangs out, it would give around 5-6" between the tip and tire ... I checked the tire surface from chicken-strip to chicken-strip right after the ride, and there was no noticeable difference in temp. More info as I get more (s)miles on it. (**Note: smaller chicken-strips on the right side ... I'm in an area that is reverse NASCAR - straightaways and only right turns**)   | ||

Not a fan of the center outlet (duals do it for me!) but it's your bike, do what you like. Otherwise it looks fantastic! I only dealt with Odie once and it was a great transaction. Bought a heat blanket from him before my 3,500+ mile trip south. It's not a perfect solution, but helps a lot. +1 for Odie. | ||

Thanks guys. Thanks Doug for posting the pics. I received the ones you sent via PM also. I like the looks a lot. Cleans up the back even better than my original oval outlet model. I guess I should find a close-by source for those outlets since I can anticipate a few requests for them. I think it looks pretty darn good and I'm not a chrome guy either. | ||

Thanks all for the positive feedback/comments ... I hope I got to everyone's emails and answered the questions (I was out of town for the last week) ... if not, PM again and I'll get back to you. To sum up most everyone's questions: no, there is no noticeable gunk or temp difference on the rear wheel from the center outlet ... $300+shipping ... no 'tinny' sound, just deep ... maybe just a small bead of high temp sealant around the tip (like the stocker), but Odie's cut is perfect and leaves a very tight fit, so the gap is unnoticeable ... tip was from Advance Auto made by 3A-Racing ... and yes, love it/wouldn't change anything. /CC | ||

I think heating wouldn't affect much on the rear tire i would only be worried if there comes any gas or oil from the exhaust which shouldn't but you never know- it's possible. | ||

Lemon- Drop him a PM and ask ... he's a great guy to work with. You may want to go to the parts store to find the tips you want and mail them to him to make sure it's what you are looking for. And be ready for a little longer wait than for the standard pipe ... Odie is VERY thorough and wants to make the customer happy (he went thru 3 end pieces before he was satisfied with the opening for mine, and we bounced several emails back & forth with ideas to make sure the larger opening didn't change the expected performance gains), then sent photos along the way as he was mocking it up to make sure it was what I envisioned:  Here is one of the earlier pics he sent ... looks ugly when under construction, but you can see just how nice it came out in the end. Good luck, and make sure you post it when it's done (with PICs!!). I'll keep everyone posted on how the center exhaust works blowing on the tire ... Getting the ECM remapped today from a HRH BadWebber ... the folks on this site are great people! /CC Ps- I found the cat. | ||

Finally got the ship back in port, and Bishopjb1124 hooked me up with a map from Hammer71. Smoother delivery than the stock map, less of a hole in the middle, and just a light popping on decel. I missed the dyno day at a local HD dealer this morning ($10/run), but the butt dyno feels the added pull. Nice work. BTW, chicken strip is nearly always less on the right side because you're turning into oncoming traffic. On left, you lose it and you slide off the road. On rights, you lose it and you slide across the lane of traffic so you're more cautious. It shows wisdom. | ||

Iamarchangel... On the note of chicken strips I believe the OP is saying his are smaller on the right meaning he leans farther on that side... The opposite of what you are saying. And my strip's are fairly equal but the right is actually the smaller (meaning I lean more to the right then the left) by a small amount. What you say about which part of the road you go off of is somewhat true but there are also cliffs on the right side of a lot of roads I ride  ... So left turns are still pretty sketchy. I feel I can ride a right turn harder then a left for line reasons, I can take a good apex and keep myself WAY inside my lane. With a left turn, if I were to take as aggressive of a line my head and bike would be way over the yellow line. | ||

I stand corrected. Cliffs? Cool. On subject of centre exhaust: I'm not sure I'm a fan. I've had a flooded bike suddenly fire and the gas was sprayed about twenty yards behind me. (Major emergency because my 2 year old got covered by it.) Anyway, different exhaust design but the Buell would still have the fuel in the exhaust chamber that was being sprayed on the tire over time in that situation. Does that sound like a real concern? |
