well i hate to say it, but since i dont live in CA, and in NEVADA instead, i took off the evaporative canister on my 1125 a week ago... AND my drummer doesnt seem to have a catalytic converter in it, depressingly enough.

it seems like my bike is no longer a CA spec version.

to be more detailed on the cansister removal... i took the hose from the fuel tank vent line and just kind of stuck it pointing towards the ground above the rear right passenger peg area.

the line coming from the canister to the front throttle body was cut, and a large screw was put in the end of the line to block it off.

and now for 1 week observations.

THE PLUS
my bike, when boiling hot, now cranks and starts right off the bat, where it used to cavitate the fuel line and take 10-15 seconds of cranking if the bike was hot, on a hot day.

THE MINUS
fuel vapor hisses audibly from the vent line when its hot. 'would be' tank pressure leaves the tank just as fast as it can build. im concerned that that fuel vapor is essentially (1) wasting fuel thats evaporating into the air instead of being burnt by the engine and (2) a blow torch just waiting for the smallest spark, or enough heat coming up from the burning hot muffler to make a nice hot day, become a 1125 on fire.

THE NEUTRAL
my mileage hasnt increased or decreased because of the mod. i still get the same exact miles per tank as i was getting before.

correct me if im wrong, but isnt the fuel tank vent line present so that as fuel is sucked out of the tank, the vent line replaces that volume of lost fuel, with air. it SHOULD be a 1 way check valve that lets air in, but doesnt let fuel vapor out.

does my originally-a-CA bike have some different sort of fuel vent on it than the 49 state ones??

im considering putting the canister back on just so i dont have to hear the whistle for 10 minutes after i shut my bike down hot, watch fuel vapor blow out, and make for a really spectacular gasoline bomb.

Tony -

When Loretta got the vent-line re-route recall, I noticed MORE dribbling after riding.

Partly due to that and partly due to the fact I didn't like the hose running across the airbox, I went back to the original routing.
Up front on the right side.
A hot tank of fuel IS going to raise the pressure of the tank as vapors are produced.
The LONGER vent line allows the vapor a chance to condense and then blow dribble.

That dribble ins't gasoline exactly, it IS the most volatile of it's components tho.
It is most likely flammable, I expect mostly alcohol.

All I did was re-route to the old spot, but moved it outboard a bit so any dribble misses the exhaust.

I am with Z, mine only started dribbling gas when the re-route was done. I don't like the new routing. It seems to go against the BOB philosophy that the passenger pegs are easily removed. One day, when I am feeling ambitious I will re-route it myself somewhere else.
