Thanks Aaron and all. Jim, these motors will be normally aspirated. Ray, the motor in my bike should put out WAY more than that when the fuel delivery gets sorted out. James is going to give us a run for our money. Should be exciting. James is actually a pretty nice guy. I wouldn't tell him that to his face though. Don't wanna ruin my rep. |

Oh by the way. The Superflow dyno calculates hp about 13% lower than the Dynojet. On the Dynojet dyno, the old beast turned 153rwhp. Major problems with fuel delivery. We are in the process of sorting that out. Should be scary to ride. |

I would hope so! I choose not to discuss torque curves, however. |

Ferris, I've lurked on this board for so long without posting anything that I forgot my User ID & Password, had to Re-join the ranks after reading the post about your sister. She sounds like the type of person who enjoyed life, my deepest condolences to your family. Tonite, when I offer a prayer to The Lord for family, friends & the Troops in the Middle East, I'll be praying for your sister and family. Steve Snyder (I believe I did meet you once before, in 1997 at Dinner with a bunch of other enthusiastic Buellers with Mr. Buell at the American Sportbike Festival.) |

New member here. Hey to everybody. I sold my Hog a little over ten years ago. Every year since, The Itch has gotten worse. Cleaned out the garage the other day and my wife said 'you've got room for that Harley now, better get us one'. Looked for a few days at used Harleys. Way too much chrome. Way too much paint. WAY too much money. Made the mistake of test-riding a new Buell. WOW! The best of all possible worlds: Harley sound and torque. Better handling than about any sportbike I'd ever ridden. No chrome! Reasonably affordable. Found a '99 M-2 Cyclone in the paper. Rode it. Bought it. Now for the questions... #1 what can be done with that hideous aircleaner? Will a Sportster aircleaner fit? S&S? Suggestions? #2 Is there a BRAG chapter in D/FW Texas? |

JP135, Welcome to the ranks of relative newbies to Buell. The hideous intake can be replaced... or you can use it as a place to take your pet poodle along for a ride (sorry about that) The Forcewinder intakes get you really better looks and knee clearance but if you drop it hard on the right side, can do major damage to the mounts and rear cylinder. The Factory race intake looks "Sportster like" and will take a fall better. Both Force and Factory are about the same cost. I haven't seen that either makes more power than the other. Rizoma (Italian Buell stuff believe it or not) - makes a pretty neat billet intake but I haven't heard anything about its performance - have seen pics and it is pretty clean. I still have my breadbox (modified with K&N and intake venturi ring) but am also looking around for intake that'll clear my knee and not look like a place to hide my dog. |

JP, Buell of Dallas aka Sport Twin, one of the board sponsors has a BRAG club, I think. If you get some time, take a look in the Cool Pics archives and also in the Knowledge Vault - Engine - Intake. Aaron Wilson also did a test of the Force versus Race intake that is posted in the KV. Thanks again Aaron! Newbies, FYI... For optimum browsing of BadWeB, please try using the New Messages utility. It also helps speed browsing if you set your user preferences in your user profile to "Open "New Messages" links in a new browser window". That way you can simply click on each topic/post of interest and a new window will open taking you directly to that post; there's no need to scroll through the whole page or topic trying to find the post of interest like in some other popular discussion boards. Glad to have y'all. Especially another Bueller in the Lone Star State. Yeehaw! |

Am I being a total moron, or do I actually have to split the caliper to remove the front PM from my M2? |

Bigfanof6 In all the cases I have been involved with removing the pads first provides just enough room... Then remove the caliper mount bolts and slide the caliper out between the brake disc and the wheel.... |

Thanks, S2. Before I head back out to the bike, how do the pads come out? I wasn't able to get the caliper off the rotor far enough to pull them out the bottom. Thanks, Chris |

Chris, The pads come out the bottom of the caliper. Just work them back and forth a little to get the pistons to retract a bit and they should pop right out. I suggest you put some duct tape on your rims while removing the caliper so as not to scrath them. It is a tight squeeze and inevitably you will nick the rim if you don't tape it. |

Thanks, Guys. Got the pads out and the wheel off. Never saw a bike you had the take the pads out and the caliper off to get the front wheel off. Oh well, learn something new every day. Thanks again. Chris |

RT: I understand the price of gas in Texas has gone so high that women who want to run over their cheating husbands have started carpooling. Is that right? |

Jp...S&S makes a Buell specific aircleaner. I got one ordered from my local H-D dealer. Looks great...and is about 1/2 the price of most of the alternatives. |

Has anyone on the site put any miles on a set of Metzeler SPORTTEC M-1's. |

Pdx; not specifically on the Sportecs, but I'm a big fan of Metzeler tires in general. I run MeZ 4 on the S3, ran MeZ 3 on the S3 and Rennsports on the SV. All provide plenty of grip, easy steering both into and out of turns due to their more rounded profile. Decent mileage for their intended purpose. A bit pricier than some tires, but worth it. Henrik, Thanks for info! When I had my 96 S1, I ran the MeZ 1's. Just picked up the SPORTTEC M-1's yesterday for my S3. Can't wait to get em on the bike! Jim |

"Has anyone on the site put any miles on a set of Metzeler SPORTTEC M-1's. " Last weekend at Jennings GP, did 5 track sessions on a brand new set of M-1's and they held like glue!In about an hour and a half I'll go try them out in the Mountains of North Georgia. Ferris,I'll be thinking of you and your sister on my ride today. Mike |

Saturday I finally got back on the road! Beautiful 40+ f day, ran over to my buds garage, fires up the M2L, put on gear while it danced backwards toward his garage, and putted down the road. This thing is going to be scary when I can break 2500-3000 rpm. But I'm getting good at short shifting. Naturally it begins to rain as I pull into the gas station to tank up. (seems to be a bad web thing) I did really t off some kid in a wee red honda car with a lightup coffee can exhaust tip. Light changed, brupped through 3 quick gear changes, and settled down @ 40 mph, (speed limit) putt putt putt, & lil red honda blows by me, blaaaatt blaaaatt. I didn't know we were racing! |

JP Kuriken also makes an air cleaner they call the hypercharger. It looks pretty good, don't know about any performance gains. |

We've been running M1s on both the 00 S3 and the 01 X1 and love them. Better turn in and mid corner response from our seat of the pants dyno. Price was right from Pammy and Wes on the tires. Enjoy |

Court: Any chance that you might have a set of Small Fairing bags "squirreled" away in your stash room? We are looking for a set to finish of the X3 for the ride from Columbus to Portland in June? Thanks for any help or directions to someone who might have a set. Ride Safe Tom |

Pdxs3t, The Sportecs rule. Had 'em on my X1 & loved 'em. I'm going to put them on my 9S when it's ready for new rubber, too. They're very sticky & have a profile well suited to the Buell tube frame chassis. I'm surprised you didn't opt for some of the higher mileage Metzlers for the S3. |

JP Tat has a billet aircleaner assembly that fits well and mounts securly. Also, a factory Carbon Fiber A/C kit has been available from Buell. We purchased the one for the M2, drilled a hole for the ATC and went riding. Good luck Tom |

I ran M-1's on my S2 most of last year. Got about 3300 miles per rear tire and about 5400 on the front. Great tires. But they wear out too often for my needs. I'm running BT-010's right now and I like them very much so far. We'll see. |

Aesquire: Car guys just don't get it do they. My bike is faster than your car! Sorry dude, that's just the way it is. Bye. Zoooom. Bartimus: I had a Hypercharger. It looks pretty cool but doesn't add anything to performance. In fact, if it does anything at all, it detracts from performance. The flaps are operated by vacuum line spliced into the hose running from the carb. That may or may not affect the ignition timing but if it does it would be in a bad way. JP135: Actually, the bread box works very well, it's just so darn UGLY. Every other product made looks better but nothing really out performs a lightly modified stock box. |
