Humm...can't tell you.

I did my 620 mile service at about 680 miles and reset mine.

The only thing I didn't like is that it jumps to the next scheduled service which is 6000 something miles.

I like the service counter on my Jeep. It's user programmable.

Mine reset per the manual at 6200 miles.

What is wrong with it defaulting to the factory maintenance schedule?

I want to change the oil more than recommended. I can track it manually, but would be nice to set the reminded to do it for me.

Do you fall under the severe operating conditions listed in the manual?

Oldog,

Hold both buttons with the key off. While holding both buttons, turn ignition on but do not start the bike. You will see the "diag mode" come up. Click the bottom button until you see "service interval". When you are on that click the top button and reset it. That should work.

Resetting the service counter is done by:
1) Turn the key on and let cycle through the BUell.
2) Depress both "mode" and "toggle" buttons until you enter the mode to adjust the clock, miles/km, service counter reset.
3) toggle mode button to service counter reset and hit the "toggle" button.

I just did this yesterday since my dealer forgot to do it at the last service.

Good post ccryder, it has been a week or so since I did it, I thought I remembered having to do it from the start by holding the buttons and then resetting. I still think that is what I had to do because it would not reset the way you described above? Hmm, maybe my memory is going

JP,
What you described enters diagnostic mode I believe. You need setup mode that CC described.

(This is from my memory too)

Yeah...I'd say any bike I own qualifies for "severe duty". : )

That and I'm extremely anal retentive regarding the maintenance of my motorcycles.
