I was out riding the lightning, which was running like a dream and had been for about an hour. We stopped to get some blood back to my rear. Only stopped for about 5 minutes and bike started again no problem. Happily set off but within half a mile the engine light started flashing and the power was all over the place!!!! I immediately stopped and on idle she died. Turned it off and sat for a few seconds then tried to re-start. All of the dash was working fine, and pump was priming. With some gentle coaxing, begging and shaking she started ticked over fine. I set off again and the same problems started. I then stopped checked the oil, which in honesty was low but registering. Some friends came out to give me a hand and brought some oil. We left it for a while, and when we turned the key the needles were running through the arc but there was no familiar whirring sound of the pump priming!?!?!? Checked all the relays and have even replaced them with the 'Bolts but not making an ounce of difference (grrrrrrrr). Got to be honest, not the most technically minded, especially with electrics!!!! Any ideas however would be most welcome. Thanks Jill |

A connection could have vibrated loose: grounds to the frame, or battery terminals. You will need a Torx T27 bit, or a T27 driver, to tighten the star-shaped heads on (a lot of) the connections on the XB. But you can check them for looseness w/o. If they are not loose, you will be into the "chase down an electrical problem" maze, covered a lot in other topics. But you might want to check your plugs and plug wires first, before you jump into that. |

Check the condition of the wires at the positive terminal of the battery, I once had one break inside its insulation there, looked good, but was broken inside, and I had the same problems. |
