I've bought new studs and locknut to replace the stripped out the studs that we can't get any nuts on, but the old ones are stuck we've tried using everything we could think up, we even heated up the stud with a heat gun and used vice grips on it. I was just wondering what the masterminds on this forum might suggest....thanks. | ||

Mine were pretty stuck too. I sprayed em with PB blaster periodically for an entire day, then I double nutted em and they eventually came out(about 24 hours later.) Try the PB though and vice grips. | ||

In the end, mine got drilled out by a machine shop. Helicoil has been holding my stud in since then. The other came out by having a nut welded to it. | ||

I located an XB9 front head at a salvage yard. One of the motor mount holes is cracked. Wouldn't a force that would crack this hole also distort the head? Is welding/retapping expensive? | ||

The head could be distorted, but not guaranteed. Cracked mounts are common.Depending on which mount hole is cracked could also affect damage. If its the front hole you could get it rewelded and tapped for the Blast mount saving you time and 'fabrication'. Welding may or may not be expensive and will also depend on the type and extent of damage. It also depends on how much they want for the head and is it complete. I think a new complete head is about $375 (no access to any info till monday). Welding $$ can depend on the shop too, so shop around. (you can also find out appx pricing on the web by doing a search). PS If they have the cylinder cheap, get that too! and cams.... | ||
