Does anyone know a good contractor/painter? Dave and I are going to start working on his house next month and decided we'd rather hire someone else to paint the outside than do it ourselves. |

Man I miss the home roads. I went 300 miles today and found 5 okay curves. The roads are harsh with potholes everywhere. Kinda makes me respect the road crews back home. |

south Detroit area, Trenton, rode over to Waterloo yesterday and then south to Saline, 40 miles of dirt roads and a few turns later and I was back in Trenton. Today we sailed down the Detroit River from the north side down to Trenton. A beautiful day on the river, and a much smoother ride than these damn roads up here. |

DD .. Now much for riding roads around, there is a reason an area near there is called flat rock. A nice scenic ride/drive on the north side is lake shore drive. It a must go slow zone though, It's the fancy-schmanzy side of town and the roads are heavily patroled. No turns, just a nice view. It's after the river ends and the lake starts. It's where the closing credits of Gran Torino were filmed if you saw it. |

Well, I've had a rotten day. I lowsided the Ulysses off the side of 17/75 today and had to call a wrecker to winch it out. I guess one of these days I'll figure out the lean limit and stop exceeding it. I had a split second to register that the peg was dragging, and then the bike just slid out from under me. Amazingly enough, the only real damage appears to be the handlebars. Just to add some dreary icing to this cake of misery, I forgot to put the kickstand up when I backed the bike out of my truck. It caught on the ramp. I couldn't put it up because the bike was half on the ramp. I couldn't get the bike back up into the truck without the engine, and the stand was forcing the bike over to the right. I decided I was DAMNED if I was going to drop that bike off the truck after it survived so much today. I strained down to grab a fallen strap and wound it around the mangled remains of the handlebars to keep it from falling over. Once it was stable, I added more straps and spent about 20 minutes ratcheting 425 lbs of Ulysses back up the ramp and into the bed so I could start over. I was pouring sweat and cursing like crazy by the time I finished, but in the end I didn't drop it. Thanks for the assist with the recovery, Dan. Enjoy the pork rinds. |
