Can anyone tell me about the oil cooler on this bike on ebay? Looks kinda like a heat sink. I wonder if it is effective, I like the look... Item # 2407800316 sorry I don't have a link, haven't had the time to figure that out yet... thanks, -Mike | ||

Mike, That is a Spurgin oil cooler. It has spiral cores inside of it that give it maximum exposure for cooling. A very good but also expensive cooler. | ||

I am somewhat new to the world of Buell, but so far am not sure what all the complaints are about. I have had other HD products and a Honda CBR 600 F3 (which developed an overheating problem at about 1700 Miles). Buells seem to have a bad reputation but I suspect most of it is simply due to inapt service. My local dealer took two weeks to fix a rocker box leak on my Sportster and ended up using the wrong gasket as well as melting electrical tape on top of the cylinder heads. I suspect Buells are like other bikes fix them yourself or have many expensive problems. If I am wrong feel free to enlighten me. | ||

Brener you are correct. Some people don't have much else to do but complain. I talked to a guy Sat. that got rid of his 2k M2 with 5400 miles because he had 5 speedo sensors fail and the recall shock had to be replaced two times. He said the dealer had it more than he did. After he told me what dealer it was I wasn't surprised. I had heard they cleaned house AGAIN. I believe his dealer was the problem. What a shame! The bike always started and ran. I didn't get it. Blake: A friend of mine has a Firebolt that had to have wheel bearings replaced at the 10K service. Front bearings were pretty bad. | ||

If any of you all are ever out in Gettysurg, Pa, stop in at Battlefield HD/Buell. It is one of the best dealerships I have found, with plenty of Buell gear, and two fulltime Buell mechanics. It is also pretty close to my house with lots of twisty roads through the battlefield. If your out that way, give me a heads up, would love to ride with a fellow Bueller. (my best bud and riding partner has a few more semesters in Michigan) Brian | ||

Jim, as Roc said, springs are under verry little tension and it's an easy task to take out clip.I made a seal installer out of pvc pipe/split in half and then hose clamp aroung the halves to hold together..You just need to be able to tap in seal with force distributed around so it goes in evenly. Oh, and its not a hard job to get to rear s/arm bearings.Just need to support rear,side plate bolts can be a bitch,but a brass drift and a good whack usually frees them of corrosion.I made a tool for the special bearing tensioner bolts from an automotive pickle fork,fits in the grooves perfectly. | ||

The spokeswoman said he was in a stable condition and had been discharged from the hospital. Knopfler was riding a Honda motorcycle when he was involved in a collision with a Fiat Punto car in London's upscale Belgravia district in mid-morning traffic. I've heard some stuff off "Neck & Neck" but I own neither CD. I've generally been a bit more into rock or experimental stuff. Kinda lost the fire for music a couple of years ago and I miss it dearly. I'm really lost in that regard and am seeking some sort of inspiration. Music & racing were both a huge part of the best time in my life. FMJ, you guys have me sold. I'll give the forks a go without the tools. Meanwhile, didn't you recommend putting in a stiffer spring while I was in there? Race Tech recommend something like a .97 for me. Your thoughts? | ||

Jim, I installed the 1 (kg?) Race Tech springs in my S3 with no special tools. (Just wear safety goggles in case) For me, I thought it made the forks a bit too stiff. (I weigh in around 185-195 lbs) You'll have to do some measuring & cutting on a spacer in each fork if you go Race Techs. An alternative...you can add a little heavier weight shock oil or even fill the fork tube up a lil more to adjust it's behavior. Many more educated folks around that can speak on this. There may be some good info with pictures in the Knowledge Vault. DAve | ||

I might have .95kg springs for a 98 S1 avail in a couple weeks if anyone needs them. Henrick, "Presumed" through a nice stereo w/ an SVS Subwoofer really sounds good  I don't have "Screen Playing", I am trying to find my vinyl of "Brothers in Arms." My favorite is the "On the Night" live version of "Romeo and Juliet." The Deserado soundtrack (incl DS "Six Blade Knife" which I think is avail elsewhere?) is great also. I mean where else can you get Antonio Banderas singing backed by Los Lobos and Selma Hayak trying to sing. | ||

Saro: get it back, dude. To paraphrase Guy Clark: "Work your ass off and make lots of money, but you will be remembered for your art." I don't have enough musical talent to cover the bottom of a thimble. And my guitar playing is such that having the end of my left ring finger cut off while 200 miles off shore and later re-attached changed nothing, other than giving me an excuse for the way I played. a year or so ago, while making my deliveries here in SoCal, i was listening to the Mark & Brian radio program, and Mark Knopfler was their special guest that day. he was promoting his new-at-the-time CD "Sailing to Philadelphia". Mark (Thompson) and Brian (Phelps), markandbrian.com or 955KLOS.com, are Los Angeles-based and nationally syndicated, and it's IMPOSSIBLE to get thru on the phone to them. but, i was SO amped that Mark Knopfler was there i had to try. i've been a Dire Straits fan since "Sultans of Swing" (this is crazy -- i can actually remember where i was the first time i heard that song), and i REALLY wanted to tell him so. i parked my truck just off highway 395 north of Ridgecrest, on the northern fringes of the Mojave Desert, next to a lone Joshua Tree, exactly pretty much right in the middle of nowhere, isolated from the outside world by miles of shifting sand and scraggly sagebrush, surrealism hanging in the air like dust in the wind, and dialed the station's number on my cell phone. it was my first-ever time calling M&B, and i KNEW i had no chance of getting thru. on the other end it rang twice, and a male voice (one of their 'screeners') answered. "KLOS Radio, do you have a question for Mark Knopfler?" i was stunned. it CAN'T be this easy, can it? my voice was weak and puny, caught off-guard as i was by how quickly i got thru. "Uh," i stammered, "um, er uh, I'd like to ask him about his collaboration with Chet Atkins on their "Neck and Neck" CD." this record is one of my all-time favorites, a mesmerizing blend of country and rock by two of the most masterful men to ever fondle a guitar and croon into a microphone. "We've already got someone else on hold wanting to ask about that," said the voice, getting ready to hang up. "Wait, wait! I've got all kinds of questions!" i blurted. "Um, I know he's into motorcycles, and i'd like to talk to him about THAT!" "OK," said the voice, and i was put on hold. for all of about 20 seconds. Mark and Brian have made no secret of their love of riding over the years -- each has a Harley-Davidson in their garage, and Brian in particular likes to spend the occasional weekend riding solo "lone wolf" tours throughout the southwest. in what turned out to be a very unplanned stroke of genius, i had asked a question that sparked the interest of EVERYONE in the KLOS studio that morning. at approximately 21 seconds i heard Mark (Thompson's) voice say, "Let's go to Jerry on line 8. You're on the air with Mark Knopfler." this all probably sounds pretty tame and unspectacular to all you well-traveled, worldly types out there, but it's no stretch to say that i was about to explode out the windshield at this point. wow, yowza and summabitch, Ferris! i managed to sound cool (i'm not), and addressed him as Mr. Knopler, and mentioned the words "pleasure" and "honor" in describing the oppurtunity to speak to him. he was gracious and humble and soft-spoken in his initial reply, and i mentioned seeing the article that Nick Ienatsch did on him in Cycle World a few years back called "Island Girl", about a hopped-up Honda FireBlade (CBR929RR, i believe it was) that Mark was involved with. his reply was brief but you could tell from his words that he's truly one of us, and he was thoughtful enough to compliment Ienatsch on the quality of the story. my brush with fame lasted only a moment, but i was amped nearly beyond words the rest of the day, feeding on the energy that comes from two souls coming together for a brief instant and sharing a small piece of their passion with each other. i promptly purchased "Sailing to Philadelphia", and recently added "Ragpicker's Dream" to my collection. "On the Night", mentioned above, is beyond awesome. and what about "Brothers in Arms"? spectacular. there's just something about Knopfler's way of blending voice and guitar that stirs my coals. Saro, having finally met you this weekend, i got the tiniest of glimpses into YOUR soul, and i liked what i saw. i'm not sure what i can say to rekindle your passion for music, but i CAN tell you that few things move me like good motorcycles and good music. please tell us about your involvement with "Sultans of Swing" Blake, thanks for the bandwidth. all, thanks for listening.
