Ok, my buddy just bought a brand new zx 6r and i rode it. ive been told that you can shift those I4 bikes just by lifting throttle a tiny bit. and not using the clutch so i tried it. IT WORKED GREAT. and i know the reason why you can due to straight cut gears and what not. The point and Question is can you do that on the 1125r or is it just better to use the clutch.   | ||

You can do clutchless shifts on the 1125's. Up and down. It kinda freaks me out, and I generally don't, but some people do. | ||

Carbonbigfoot is absolutely correct. I upshift clutchless all the time, though I still use the clutch for downshifts (though an occasional inadvertent clutchless downshift does happen because I goof). | ||

I concur with the above, though I rarely do it. Just about any vehicle can shift sans clutch going up. | ||

I do clutchless upshifting on the track. It is quick and easy. As long as you preload the shifter a bit, then roll off the throttle a little, it will snick right into the next gear all by itself. | ||

yea, the 1125 is great for clutch-less shifts. I had a lightning long before this bike though and that transmission hated it. The 'slipper' clutch really helps with the smoothness of the clutch-less shifts I am thinking. As the people that posted before, I only clutch-less shift up....not down. | ||

I have no problem doing it upshifting on my CR, my 06 XB12 usually does it fine, but my 03 Blast will add another neutral then grind between every gear. | ||

it can be done with every bike, not just with the I4. for up shifting, you have to release the throttle and shift in the next gear at the same time. to dow shift, you have to actually give a quick movement of the throttle up while you down shift (I hope I was clear, damn translations!!!!!)... | ||

That is what the CZ used to be famous for in 1960s motocross circles. They had such strong gear boxes, that racers would just rev them up and stomp them into first gear when they started. Their gear boxes stood up to a lot of abuse, but even they weren't indestructible. Be nice to your transmission. | ||

Use the clutch for first and second. 3rd thru 6th and back down.... just match rpms. I use my clutch about half the time anymore, even less in winter. That clutch lever really pulls the warmth out of your fingers. 21.5 k miles and no transmission explosions yet. Z (Message edited by zac4mac on September 04, 2009) | ||

Used to do clutchless shifts with my car when it was old, don't have the nerve/need to try it on a new toy. It's just a matter of matching engine speed with road speed. I think I read in the manual that the 1125r clutch is in fact a "slipper" clutch.... but I confess I don't know what "slipper" means. Will someone tell me? | ||

I do clutchless shifts all the time street and track on this bike. it is one of the best cluchless shifting bikes I've riddin. And It is not bad for it. Of course you have to be moving first so you cant do it in first. When you reduce throttle you build vacuum and the clutch will partially release making for very smooth upshifts with only backing off of the throttle a slight bit. Clutchless down shifts can be done but are hard to do smooth, so I wouldn't recommend them. | ||
