For those of you that are a bit more computer savvy... How do you get the @%$&*@^#$! Virtual Com Port thingie to work? Deep Breath. It's just a little obstacle... Right? R |

How did you get a Race ECM? |

Purchased it from an individual that was racing an 1125, then parted out the bits and pieces and sold the bike. Great luck on my part. If I can get the @#$%*&! thing to talk to the laptop. Sigh. It's like getting a pony for Christmas, then having it eat your favorite GI Joe and poop it out in your bedroom. Well, maybe not that bad. I'll get it sorted. R |

Nah. It my computer. Setting up the virtual com port to use the USB adapter. Either that, or I have to pull the bike in the living room to use the other computer. Wife has issues with that. I'm just bitchin. Don't mind me. I don't have anybody else to whine to 'cept you guys! R (Message edited by carbonbigfoot on September 02, 2009) |

You can use the usb cable setup used by ECM Spy. Order the cable download the port driver and you are good to go. |

Problem is, the key (I think it's called a dongle) has to go in line with the cable, and it's serial in and out. I have to use the serial to USB adapter to use the key. Not a problem, just an issue. R |

The first time you connect to the race ecm it will ask for the key located on the ecm, the program then writes a key file to the program directory. So the type of cable is not an issue. If you use the serial port cable you will need to purchase a 9pin male to female serial cable. It is easier to use the USB cable. |

That may be it. It didn't ask me for the key. Same key same ECM, different computer... Am I thinking right? R |

Yes, I have the software installed on two different computers, just in case the garage PC, gets hosed. |

Ok, wait. If it never asked me for the key, it never succesfully connected to the ecm? That means I still have a connectivity issue. R |

It has been some time since I set mine up, but it either will ask on the verify command or when you the select the Send All command. If the port number is active 1 thru 4 and the status is connected (look at the bar bottom of the window), it's connected. It takes time to understand the software, start reading the help menu and the document it came with. |
