I can't figure out why my 05 xb12r is getting such a big hiccup when I hit the throttle from idle. Buell Race Pipe Open Air Box Breather Re-Route Custom Tuned ECM I logged 10 different rides, putting on about 200 miles and tuned it with Megalog each time until I was just about perfect. What am I missing? Every time I am at idle and crank on the throttle it just sucks air, I have to have it a little above idle in order to lay on the throttle. |

Why would you even do that? It's not a 125cc dirt bike. A bog when you do that is perfectly natural. And then you do a bunch of clutch work and away you go or, as you concluded, you have to have it a little above idle in order to lay on the throttle. Blame Newton. |

+2 - leave the throttle alone when at idle! |

No matter how you put it it was not doing that before I did the mods, and it is now, so something is different. I am just trying to put my finger on it. My buddy has the same bike with a filter and a pipe and it does not have that problem, you hit the throttle and it just goes, so something is up. |

How many miles on the bike? My guess is the plugs are due for a change and a TPS reset wouldn't hurt either! My bike stumbled when starting from idle and would even surge sometimes at 2800-3000 rpm driving at a steady throttle. I changed from original (stock) plugs to NGK Iridium plugs. I chose the Iridium’s after they got good reviews from this board. They were installed at the 10,000 mile service. (a TPS reset is also done at this service) Drivability was greatly improved. I could not believe the difference the new plugs made! No more surge or stumble. Plugs...$22 for both. TPS reset...free. |

BTW....I also logged many hours prior to changing plugs and all looked good. After the new plugs and reset I logged again. Everything looked good then too but it was different with new plugs. |

4000 miles with original plugs. TPS reset has been done a few times just to be sure. |

Maybe the open airbox is too much of an air supply? Since you say it was perfect before the mods I am lead to believe that perhaps one of those mods is the culprit. Perhaps you can put the stock inner box back on, go for a putt to let the ecm relearn and see if that makes a difference before tearing things apart. You never never know. Maybe the race pipe doesn't pair too good with it. |

maybe its the custom tuned ECM that is giving you problems. If it's tuned for performance, then you might get the studder off the line at low RPM cause you for best performance you have to have some revs. Just my .02, but i could always be wrong. I like being proven wrong though, helps me learn. |

I went back to the original race maps now to start from scratch. I will put in new plugs tonight to see if that helps. It has to be something because using the race maps, race pipe, and race filter should be simple, it is suppose to be plug and play so I must be missing something. So irritating... Gap on the plugs should be .04 right? |

if you're talking about "blipping" the throttle at idle, the stroke and weight of the flywheel are too heavy to act like the jap bikes. same reason our bikes don't drop rpms between gears like jap bikes. The 12's are especially affected by this due to the larger displacement. 9's are better but still nothing like a GSXR1000. I doubt mods or maps of any kind will make this go away completely. Sounds normal to me. |
