If the breather line inhales, I could see the need.
Where is this video? Anyway, if its only exhaling, the balloon would get bigger and bigger till it bursts. When it is deflating, thats when it is sucking the air back in.
they do breathe in too. and as of now I have a hose like Hogs, but its by the front tire and I just don't want air pressure from moving to push junk up. (mainly water and road debris from riding in the rain)
at a higher RPM the balloon SHOULD stop filling; or at least slow at this point, and appear to equalize, it is in fact pulsing air in and out at this point. but yes more air is going out than in.
Delta one, I was thinking of doing the same thing for my gf's Blast. However, if you can incorporate the inlet/outlet and mount all onto the cap it would make dumping a breeze; just unscrew the bottle, empty, and replace.
Is the Buell system not a true PCV system? In a PCV system, air should only be flowing out of the PCV breathers, with fresh air flowing into the crankcase from a separate source of filtered air.
I thought of that but the hoses are so tight it wouldn't work, no room to turn the bottle upside down. I will be adding a drain to the bottom soon. but on the up side the hoses are completely out of view unless you look for them. Ill get a pic up in the next few minutes.
the "Tee" worked the best for a good clean out of sight setup. not as easy to dump as Not Purple pointed out but its large enough that it shouldn't be an issue for some time. and like I said I will be adding a dump valve to the bottom next to eliminate that issue too, and it too will be hidden.

yea I feel it too, my seat of the pants dyno says that I get into torque usable sooner than before and also can climb out of idle better (that dead spot as your engines rotating mass fights inertia and spools off of idle)

One of the many tricks to beating the EPA fuel economy. I am considering re-gearing the bike so that I run at lower RPMs at highway speeds, shes got enough torque I could be idle at 46mph and possibly net something like 80 mpg. I will do the same to my Blast and get 100+
But yea, the breather mod is a must in my opinion, especially because of how easy and cheap it can be done for.

Delta, I think I've got the "easy off" bottle mount idea ironed out. I'm going to try something this weekend.
Froggy, I don't know how you do it. I just can't help but twist the hell out of the throttle every time i get on my XB9S. I've never seen better than 50mpg. That's more than enough for me though.

Purple I look forward to seeing your solution, I have recently had my bottle start to come loose from the brass connector due to the tension on it. I may have devised another method too... one I get to home depot Ill let you know.

wanted to say: crankcase vent is less blow by and more of the air in the crankcase gets pushed by the pistons moving up and down and makes positive pressure(then needs to vent).engine slows and air volume goes back and when engine stops it all settles back to even with outside air.
this is true as well as rubber gaskets and other not fully sealed parts, thermal expansion etc... blow by was just easy to type and I was lazy a and since it is a contributor I stopped there
The necessary components 1- 3/8" barbed hose fitting 1- 3 way barbed splitter 1- 3/8" Nut 1- washer (optional if you drill the holes correctly) 1- L Bracket or piece of flatbar bent to 90 1- Small bottled energy drink (caution contents may taste like ass)
You'll also need a 3/8" thread cutter to get the hose fitting to accept a standard nut.
I mounted this one on a blast but it could just as easy, actually easier, to mount on an XB using one of the bolts on the front of the oil cooler bracket as a mounting point
As you can see the bottle can now be easily removed to be emptied. Easy as pie!
