I just received the Buell RSS (the Ulyse version) and I am getting ready to mod it to fit my micron setup. It does not look bad at all, the only place of interference is at the front leading edge and a bit at the center were the exhaust tube turns to head south. My question is: Do you guys know if I can heat up a section of the RSS with a torch and then apply pressure on it to re-mold it??? I know thermoplastic can be molded and re-molded, but thermosetting plastic cannot. I just don't know what the Buell RSS is made of?? Anyone with experience in that process or any recommendation would be appreciated before I set the whole thing on fire .... | ||

Twinv: It looked like thermoplastic to me when I installed one on my Ulysses. You should be able to heat it up (carefully) and move it around to clear your exhaust pipe. A heat gun or lamp may be enough local energy to soften the material without burning it. Be very careful with the heat source so that you are not too close to the surface of the material so that it burns or chars the material. It is likely to be a heat resistant plastic so it will undoubtedly need to be quite warm before you can shape it. I would recommend using a polished wood tool/surface to press on the warmed plastic. Awesome feed back. That will help a bunch. I think the heat gun is the way to go as a torch may be too hot and too focalized. Also I have a curved galvanized pipe I was going to use to press against the warm plastic. Much appreciated. |
