I will try to be as detailed as I can about my bike , the mods, and what is going on with it. the bike is a 2003 xb9r i purchased it used the beginning of this year. TZhe bike had an oil leak when i bought it, blwon fork seals, and a bad tire. it has all been fixed by a dealer. The bike has a K&N filter. Race pipe, Im assuming the generic race pipe buell would fit, as there are no markings, but it is dual exit. And a race ECM, this is the second race ecm i have owned so far. Paradise H-D also told me the bike had an aftermarket cam in it. When the oil leak was fixed it rode fine, nothing crazy went on.. then all of a sudden.. one day.. HUGE flat spot from 3-4K rpms. if i understand correctly, this is closed loop. I took it to the dealer. They replaced the intake seals, the intake manifold, the air box cover. the oil, the spark plugs, and wires. and last but not least.. My ECM.. at this point. I had paid 2,480 dollars in parts and labor.. they dyno'd it,and sent it my way.. It ran great.. For a week. The flat spot came back. It didnt matter what gear I was in.. it was always there, at any throttle position. at any speed. I reset the TPS via: ECMspy, and the AFV to 100% to no avail. since then The bike sat for a couple weeks while i busted my brain. I started doing the mapping on it. I replaced the o2 sensor which didnt throw a trouble code. But i knew was bad. The bike has never thrown a trouble code. except for when I unplugged the AIT sensor to see if it would. I cleared it , Yes. It ECMspy, in the mapping page. I added fuel to just about every box, by an even a amount to all ranges. today I was thinking.. Why not just add it to the exact "cells" or boxes it uses for CL,WOT,and CLC .. I added the fiuel.. Only upped it by a few digits, front and back.and i kept the rear richer than the front, as i am told it is supposed to be like this by the dealer. i also disabled the ''O2 sensor always rich'' trouble code.. just to see if it would run.. my tps is set at 7.1 and it ticks over finebut the idle is a little jumpy.. I rode it after all this..and reset the TPS and AFV again.. and it seemed to ride fine.. But i really need help. I have no idea what it could be..and if the dealer put a race exm in..wouldnt it compinsate for the Air /Fuel ratio?... I am looking to find someone who will take a little time to help.. I don't mind sending my ecm to someone if they can help me tune it. Im not a complete professional with ecm spy.. but any input is bettere than none.. thanks.. |

Do you have a service manual? |

If not, get one. If yes, then please review the entire section on TPS Reset. Your comment about setting the TPS at 7.1 doesn't sound right. |

Yes, I have a service manual. Yes I have had the tps reset, yes I have ecm spy and have done it myself. it's cammed.. if the tps is any lower.. It dies. Buell of portland literally sent it honme to me saying "we cant figure this out, were only charging labor" |

IF you don't have a genuine race ECM (only a flash of its maps), this link to "white wire mod" may be applicable: http://www.ukbeg.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=11 |

TPS 7.1 at idle, this sounds to me like a bad TPS. I think Your TPS has some issues. 7.1 TPS is % or º?.... Do a TPS reset and go for a ride in closed loop learning mode and then back to watch TPS %/º values for jump up. Just a thought. PS; a fuel pressure test wouldn't hurt either. |

What does your service manual say about TPS voltage? Not sure anything but a custom mapping via dynamometer will resolve issues due to aftermarket cams if that turns out to be the root cause. |

Based on your description, it may be that you are not understanding the scheme for closed loop operation. For instance, there is no closed loop for any WOT scenario. |

I know that there is no closed loop for WOT. but like i said. the flat spot was an all gears.. 3-4 k rpms. no matter how much throttle was given. The ecm says 'for race use only' I paid the money for a race ecm. I have checked everything you guys have suggested. If i set the tps at any value.. It stays at the value i set. I don't have an issue with that. I bought new injectors this morning. and it didnt help. the fuel pressure test was good. It has good volts, good fuel pressure, no clogged lines. and should run fine. |

Do you mean a flat spot in the power, but everything is running okay? Or the engine bogs at some point and doesn't run right? All 9s with the Race Pipe have a big hole in the middle of the powerband, right where you are experiencing it. That is muffler related. If you were to put a Drummer on it and change nothing else, it would go away. You can see the hole in the dyno charts from the American Sport Bike shootout. I am going to try 12 headers on my bike with the same setup to see if it minimizes the dip. --Sean |

" If i set the tps at any value.." This doesn't make sense. There is no requirement to "set the TPS at (a particular) value". You perform the TPS reset, then set the idle, then check the TPS voltage. If and only if that voltage is not within the prescribed range is it necessary to fiddle with the TPS itself, and then after you do, it is necessary to perform another reset, and once again verify voltage. That's how I understand the procedure anyway. |

So I'd say, reset the TPS and then set the idle at 1050 RPM. |

What part number is on that XB9 race ECM? If someone put an 05+ race ECM on an 03, it would run, but not well. 03 Race ECMs have been unavailable for some time now, but 05+XB9 race ECMs are still current, pending running out of stock. The throttle bodies are completely different. read the EEprom with ECMspy, and report the Firmware number in the upper right corner on the EEprom page. Adding fuel blindly is a sure way to screw things up. In many cases, it will have the opposite effect after the ECM backs the overdone fuel out after learning in Closed Loop Learn. Al |
