I am going to be in:  and I am planning on getting one of these:  If I had a day to ride, where should I go. I love twisties, elevation changes, minimal traffic, and good views. any suggestions? Please advise. | ||

So much to see... Alice's Restaurant--Skyline Blvd. Woodside, CA Grizzly Peak Blvd. Berkeley to "The Wall" Mt. Tamalpais Marin County SF City riding can be very spirited freeways and city streets, plan a urban route with Lombard st. and the Broadway tunnel, Fisherman's warf, Palace of Leigon of Honor, to the Clifhouse, to Ocean Beach, Pacifica, Half Moon Bay.... It will take me some time to get specifics in a map. Maybe others will suggest more places so my map would be incomplete. I'll check back later. | ||

I'm gone for the weekend, I wish others would chime in. IMO it is the most beautiful city in the world (at least the ones I've been through in US and Canada). Someday soon, I would like to spend just one day riding up and down every street in San Francisco proper, but that's just me, I LOVE riding THROUGH traffic. Oh I forgot Twin Peaks at the top of Market St., Golden Gate park, the Presidio, the list is endless. I'm jealous, I wish we could meet. I'll be back home Sunday night. Hwy 1 north of the golden gate. 'nuf said. I lived there for three years (90-93) and I miss the 1 both north and south of the bay. There are loads of back roads too, but some disolve into logging trails so be careful. | ||

Tamalpais Marin County SF City riding can be very spirited freeways and city streets, plan a urban route with Lombard st. and the Broadway tunnel, Fisherman's warf, Palace of Leigon of Honor, to the Clifhouse, to Ocean Beach, Pacifica, Half Moon Bay....All good - heres my favorite - 35 from SF Zoo to Alices and La Honda, La Honda to San Gregorio and the coast, go North crossing the Bridge, getting back on 1 from 101, up one to Stinson Beach , then back up through panoramic Highway, a tad of 1 to 101 and home. That is a really nice ride and great way to spend a day. EZ | ||

One of my favorite rides... Go over the Golden gate and follow hwy 1/101 till you get to the Muir beach / hwy 1 turn-off. Follow 1 through town until you get to the top of the hill and take the Panoramic HWY (freekin fun A$$ road) down to Stinson beach. Then turn around and ride it the other way!  (trust me on this one) when you get back to HWY 1 hook a right and ride that sucker down to the ocean to Muir Beach. Keep following HWY 1 up the coast past Bodega Bay, past Fort Ross up to Stewarts Point-Skaggs Spring road, follow it up over the mountain to Napa Valley. The road on the West side of the mountains is very tight (great Uly road) so be careful on that Duck, the Napa side is not to be missed, it's better than a frikkin race track. Have lunch in Nappa and you can take 101 back to SF of check out some of the other crazy roads in the area. There's a million of them!  Depending on how long you are going to have the Duck you may want to sign up for Pashnit dot com. The guy has detailed descriptions, reviews and photos of almost all the good roads around here. Worth every penny. P.S. Ohh yea... Bring your camera! One more thing.. ride it on a weekday if you can. (Message edited by bosh on August 29, 2009) | ||

I would forget Hwy1, too many RV's. If you want to enjoy that Duc head to Napa/Sonoma and the race track, from there go to Lake Berryessa. Hwy 121 is one of the best I've ever ridden in N. Ca and the road around the lake, hwy 128, is awesome! | ||

It's a must do if you've never rode it before. If you're not too tired after riding Skaggs Springs you can ride up 101 to 175 to Lakeport. That's a crazy ride too. What Bosh said! Times 100. Stewarts Point-Skaggs Springs Rd starts out as a goat trail on the highway 1 side and has almost zero cars. The road has no business existing and will leave a big grin underneith your helmet. Highway 1 is not too bad on weekdays and beautiful. | ||

Hwy 1 is beautiful, but not somewhere to go very fast, just to enjoy the view. Ez that sounds like an awsome ride..when are we going? I'll buy lunch | ||

35 from SF Zoo to Alices and La Honda, La Honda to San Gregorio and the coast, go North crossing the Bridge, getting back on 1 from 101, up one to Stinson Beach , then back up through panoramic Highway, a tad of 1 to 101 and home. That is a really nice ride and great way to spend a day. Thats your E ticket then from Munroe head towards Market, turn left/west onto Market, stay on that main road, it will change names, turn left onto Sloat going west, turn left on Skyline/35 right by the SF Zoo and just keep going - it detours onto 280 for 2 nice miles and then kicks back into backroads, shares 92 west for a couple miles then turns left, just keep going till you hit Alices - can't miss it. After your stop there, go west onto La Honda to San Gregorio and hwy1, go north, finally crossing the GG bridge onto 101 for 4 miles then back to 1 - you can do the Panoramic hwy going or coming, but do Hw1 on the opposite way - You will enjoy this ride - no doubt about it. You don't eat 'em, you just swallow them. Pretend you have a bad cold. The view from the lookout at the top of Mt. Tamalpais is awesome. On a clear day you can see the whole bay. Fog rolling in is an amazing sight.  Z | ||

About 30 years ago I used to like to ride from Mill Valley over Mt Tam through Muir woods (I think) and then down to Stinson Beach. Quite a road at the time. I probably got the sequence wrong but it was a great way to spend an afternoon. | ||

You don't eat 'em, you just swallow them. It's a mater of taste and experience, some chew 'em, others just swallow 'em. I chew 'em up, lots more flavor! Here are some different combination: Just raw, plain and simple. Wasabi and Soy Sauce, Lime and Tapatio (Mexican hot sauce), Shriracha (South East Asian hot sauce) and Wrochestershire sauce. They also have barbecues there so you can cook them in the shell over the hot coals. I like them this way as well! |
